How do we get Panasonic to make a drive for P2 for Windows VISTA

I have gone out and bought a laptop in Australia, currently you cant buy any WIN XP puters anymore as all computer sales here have gone Windows Vista....

I also only days ago came back from the united states and all of you guys are going if not have gone to windows vista also.....

Our HVX cameras P2 drivers only work on XP on a PC..... How do we get a driver or get Panasonic to make one so we can now use our cameras to transfer P2 MXF files with newer technology?????

It would also be great if Raylight would also convert to Vista and also P2 Genie

I have no personal experience with Vista and the P2 drivers, but there are others in this forum who have successfully installed the drivers on Vista.

Have you actually tried this and failed, or are you just posting based on the advice you were given elsewhere in the forum to stay away from Vista?

I have tried and failed loading the driver for the P2 card on vista hwever Vista does reconise the P2 from the USB as a drive allowing you to open the driver and collect the Video MXF file. Problem is this method doesnt have sound attched.

P2 viewer works on Vista so Ill see if I can get the MXF files from the camera that way.

Ok I have discovered that P2 Genie version 1.1 works on vista, but what doesnt is when I put my P2 card into the internal card reader on my laptop. I think this is a driver problem, works off the camera in USB but not P2 card into laptop///

Anyone got that working?

Hi dregenthal,

I use Premiere pro 2 but havent loaded it onto the laptop.
I'll try that shortly and let you know.

Cheers

Mike

People have been able to get Edius 4 Broadcast to work under Vista, but it isn't a supported platform.

Raylight and Vegas 7.0d work on Vista with good results, several users have reported that to me.

Ok premiere pro 2 works fine on Vista,

Still I am having problems with Vista reconising my P2 card threw the PCMCIA port. I can't as of yet get vista to reconise that my P2 card has data on it. it reconises that the P2 card has been inserted, it then asks for P2 drivers to be loaded ( they are already ) When I get the computer to find drivers for P2 PCMCIA slot off disc or net I get a can't find drivers message.....

Im not sure if this is because we need a driver for P2 cards for PCMCIA slots on vista or thats its operator error.....

I can download using the USB cable from the camera onto the laptop but id rather hot swap.... after all thats why the HVX has two P2 ports....

Anyone else got there PCMCIA slot working on a Vista computer laptop/notebook ????

Maybe Barry Green knows a little more about drivers for vista.... I just stumbled across this phrase from a laptop question posted on the forum....

And yes, the Sony SZ has both PCMCIA and ExpressCard slots, so it can read the cards directly. However, you'd want to get one with WinXP as the P2 Windows Vista drivers aren't released yet(!)

They better get a move on...... :)

cheers

FF, search "P2 viewer problems" and you should find some helpful stuff. I think THoff helped me out once with a similar problem - try disabling your "8-in-1 card reader" or whatever it is you have. My p2 card worked fine after I did that.

I checked the forum all over and THoff was on a forum with Barry Green about glitches when transfering from P2 card to an apple computer.

The drivers for the P2 card inserted into the PCMCIA slot wont work, it wont reconise where the drivers are even though its loaded on. I tried to load up the driver updates for the P2 but they dont work on Vista..... Anyone usings a PCMCIA slot on a vista machine to upload there work???

From what I understand, there just aren't updated drivers for Vista yet. Obviously they know about the issue and will correct it, but haven't released 'em yet.

I suppose vista is only new but if I was the CEO of a software/ hardware company I would make sure my customers would have all relevent updates within the week of a new major relase of an OS ( as long as there is no problems that is )

I think Mac is Panasonic's biggest problem right now.

I guess its the age old question of choise but tell me..... Mac v Pc... when the edits done ready for dvd or film or what ever product your finnal video render is for is there a diffrence in quality that a mac or pc has over the other?????

It's not an issue of computing platforms (heck, they use identical processors these days), it is about the software that runs on them.

Compressor and Bitvise are very good encoders on the Mac, and Procoder and Cinemacraft are very good encoders on the PC. I don't think there is a single encoder that will always triumph over all others, there are specific situations where each has advantages in either speed or quality (or both), but that will probably never be "out of the box" and involve tweaking of the settings for specific conditions.

So really at the end of the day Pc v Mac is simply choise of look at software...

I wonder why so many in the movie industry use Mac.... Is it because Apple have a contract with most of these companys to supply computers?

Hi,

This is more than a bit of an exaggeration. Vista is less than 1% of installed base from the hot lines we have here. Have had 2 requests in 45 days. Can't number the MAC requests, too many, and XP is seems mainstream for right now. I will send along the request.

Best,

Jan
