ISO 640 in ETC isn't going to be pretty. The ETC mode really amplifies the noisiness of the camera in general, even outdoor exteriors at like ISO 320 can be a bit much at times (although that's probably caused by the aforementioned ISO glitch).
Don't get me wrong, ETC is an awesome feature and I use it a lot, but I wouldn't design a whole workflow around it unless you've really tested it and like the look.
If you still needed some ungraded indoor footage with little light I can do it. Just tell me up to what iso ranges you wanted to see, as the new patch goes up to 12,800 as you probably know (not that it's practical, ha). I'm the one with that fire spinning video on vimeo. http://vimeo.com/32177879
boy, this looks amazing. very natural colors. my kind of look
this is great encoding btw. scaling "on" full screen still looks very sharp.
i'll be asking for your encoding settings soon!
The NEX looks pretty sweet for the price, thanks for posting the footages, HHL.
I think I do prefer the look of the GH2 + Hack still, but it's looking like a good alternative for sure.
I was having MAJOR issues with noise in lower mids with the hack in and out of ETC mode. The pattern was flickery and completely unsatisfactory. Even in broad daylight, pointing the camera at something of a dark color (a 4x4 Floppy for example) saw WAY too much noise just in that patch.
Today, I've got a new set of PL lenses and I'm testing them with the straight-up Driftwood seaQuake patch from earlier in november and right now, it seems to have fixed my issues. I need to go into a room with litepanels to see if I'm still getting the same thing.
But, even in ETC mode, large splotches or shapes of lower mid blacks or shadows aren't getting the same noise in broad daylight in or out of ETC. Will report back soon.
