CineForm

Yes you can upgrade any of our lower end products to a high end version, discounted by the amount you already spent.

David...speaking of CineForm...does it not do Live capture? I can't get it to work with Premiere Pro 2 and firewire from the HVX. Can't find anything about it on the CineForm website.

I'm also having huge problems trying to convert files. I own Aspect and downloaded the Prospect demo because I want to upgrade and now my HD link is a pain. I've uninstalled reinstalled and downloaded every trial I could. I'm now stuck with a hundred clips I have to go through one by one and make sure it was converted all the way.

My PC is up to specs and I'm wondering if other had this problem. I literally stayed up all night last night baby sitting clips one by one with about a 10 percent failure rate.

Any ideas why? My trials expired last night and now I'm not sure I want to spend the money on prospect or Neo. I could really use that 10 bit upconvert but it is a pain in ass to babysit my the larger P2 clips one by one and still have them fail.

Hi David,

Couple of questions about ProspectHD... I just discovered the Film scan 2 option ! As I read it is the less compressed mode available. I am rather surprized to find out that, besides that it doubles my file size, it doesn't affect performance and it does help with keying, although to my eye there is no difference between "Large".
Less compressed is less CPU demanding I guess. So any other downside besides the file size ?

Using HD link for my capture I don't see a 8bit 10 bit options available. I am capturing always 10 bit, right ?

Thanks
Andreas

I did some further testing and it seems that Filmscan 1 vs 2 vs Large is no big diference for keying. Actually if you apply the same settings to Filmsacan 1 and Large the result is 98% identical but with filmscan 1 is somehow easier to get there. Now, the big diference is that filmscan 1 eliminates some more the noise in dark areas (below 30 IRE) Filmscan 1 is for me to go.

Avid DNxHD and CineForm codec rarely cross paths so we haven't gone out of our way to do comparisons with it. Here are list of thing we feel makes the CineForm codec a superior design.

CineForm ....................... DNxHD
--------------------------------------------------
Wavelet ......................... DCT
Variable bit-rate ............. Constant bit-rate
flexible resolution ........... fixed 720 or 1080
support for >1080p* ...... 1080p max.
support for 4:4:4* ......... 4:2:2 only
support for 12-bit* ........ 10-bit max
support for RAW bayer ... -

* - Prospect 2K or NEO 2K

For the same PSNR quality CineForm will have a lower bit-rate so it wil use less disk space.

However, while we happily beat up on DVCPRO-HD and M2T as these codecs not designed for post, we don't do the same for DNxHD which does have post production quality in it design goals. If you are working on an Avid NLE DNxHD is still a good choice.

Hello,

Yesterday I installed the trial of Aspect and Prospect. I select the mxf files but only the video managed to be converted. The messages for the audio files was - no valid video stream found.

stanislav,

That might happen for several reasons, could be an installion issue or a corrupted CONTENTS directory structure, or other. You should never have to manually open the AUDIO folder, selecting the MXFs in VIDEO finds and interleave the audio automatically. Please file a trouble ticket with support as it too much to go through here.

aaah, ok. sorry about this. I use fs 100 and just download the material, there is no contents folder so i don't know the exact structure of it. I tried to creaté one with video and audio but it wont work again. ill fix this somehow, thanx !
btw the previoud reply was mine, but from another account

I tried searching for this, but couldn't find a fix.
I'm using Premiere 1.5.1 and Aspect HD 4.3.1.
When I play the timeline, it takes a few seconds for the audio to sync with the video. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!

That is PC dependent, you can change this behavior by dcreasing the number of buffers used for video; in playback settings reduce the buffers slider to minimum, and/or in your audio card ASIO driver settings increase the size of its buffers.

Hey David. I tried to do a camera text, converting 720 pN footage to avi, so I could take it along to a second workstation, to see if the NEO Player would work and now when I try to convert at the producer's office (which has upgraded to Prospect HD), I get this error:

Error: GetPin(videoRenderer, RINDIR_INPUT, &pin, TRUE) (0x80070057 - The parameter is wrong.) in (ConvertGraph.cpp at 1341)

Could you perhaps help with what could be wrong?
(It's a dutch verstion, I translated the dutch part, which said that, well, the parameter is 'wrong'.)

You producer probably need to upgrade his software, as the line number doesn't match the current code. However the fault seems that the media you are trying to convert isn't playable. The error message after that line should have been :

"Format not available (P2 viewer missing?)"

To convert P2 files, you must have the P2 Viewer installed, which in turn requires the P2 drivers. Can can download these from https://eww.pavc.panasonic.co.jp/pro-av/support/desk/e/index.htm (click on Download.)

David. I hope you can help me with a new problem or bug that appeared yesterday in an error window that popped up while attempting to either make minor tweaks in color, brightness, etc.
I am having the same error trying to export a 60 minute HD 1280x720/30P movie from the PPro 2.0 timeline. The files were converted with Cineform Aspect and it plays well on the timeline. When I have exported about 20% of the avi file, I get an error message that says, PPro has encountered an error"dev/stingray/mediaLayer/Src/AES Support/AEInData.cpp.696"
Then the screen freezes and I have to do a cold "Boot-Down"
I'm trying to get an answer from CineForm Support as well.
I tried deleting the *.tmp files etc, but nothing helps so far. I now am defragging a few of the smaller drives to troubleshoot the problem. Also, the Aspect activation window appears when PPro 2.0 opens any project, even though it has been activated for months. When I save changes in PPro 2.0 projects there is a few second delay, then the save window appears for only a millisecond, if that, instead of the normal slower pace. I hope this can be solved since I have a client waiting for both an HD and SD version of the 60 minute movie I can't export from the timeline.

That is an Adobe error, so they might know what it means. Importing that project into a new one may help. Also exporting in segments to see if there a bad element in the timeline. If you get out all the segments (say 10minutes each) they create a new project of those. Sorry I don't know more about this one.

That certainly did it! Thanks a bunch!!

Hey David,

I was wondering if version 4.x.x of AspectHD will work with Premiere CS3 or do we HAVE to upgrade to version 5?

Thanks soo much,
John G.

You have manually install components of Aspect HD 4.x in CS3, but only Aspect HD v5 has an installer than handle CS3 automatically. Also the scopes in CS3 will not work with the older software.
