CineForm

David, now that the activation issue has been solved after a week, I can't get AHD/HD Link to convert anything. The log warns that there is no valid video stream detected when the mxf 1080/24p files are placed in the conversion bin. I had previously installed P2 viewer but even that doesn't play mxf content files from a test P2 card conversion. I am also attempting to convert mxf 1080/24P files from my FS100. You had said in an earlier post that both Raylight and AHD/HD Link can live in the same drive without conflict. I have posted several tickets on the Cineform support page but the only comment from the Cineform techs was that maybe the files from the FS100 were not organized as P2 but they were and raw P2 card files are the same as far as conversion with HD Link, it just doesn't happen. It just seems to freeze when I push start, no progress bar updating, no decrease in drive size (GB/MB) when start is clicked. Hope to clear this up so I don't have to revert to Raylight. Jim.

Jim,

Seems like you system has setup problems. You should be able to play MXF files in mediaplayer if your P2 Viewer is installed correctly (although MediaPlayer will say it doesn't know the file format, tell it to try and it works.) If your find it doesn't work then nothing else will either. note: P2 Viewer is not compatible with x64, maybe that is your issue. Anyway it is best to file a trouble ticket (rather than the forums here or CineForms, as we then know more about your setup.)

I just discovered an inexpensive workaround for editing AVCHD. I wrote it up here on my blog : http://cineform.blogspot.com/2007/04/avchd-support.html

Basically the Elecard MPEG player with the option AVCHD module is all you need. This will enable all CineForm's PC apps (with HDLink) to batch convert your *.m2ts (AVCHD) media into far more editable CineForm AVIs. Editing AVIs instead of the heavy compressed MPEG4 transport streams, will allow AVCHD camera's to be much more useful.

I hope this is helpful news.

Hello everyone,

Here is a problem to jump out of the window. I haven't jumped only because my window is from the ground only two meters high !

Picture this: a 17 minutes CineformHD avi just exported from PPRO2. The file is saved in three different external hard drives, two firewire, one SATA. Using Windows Media player plays fine from SATA and firewire A, when played from firewire B it freezes at the SAME frame after 3 minutes of playing (image freezes only, sound continues) !!! I close Media Player but task manager says it still runs and I am ending the process from there. Playing the same file with any other application, no problem at all.
I have deleted the file (shredded with McAfee) and replaced it over ten times, no progress... Any suggestions ?
I really do not expect a solution to this but anyhow... Only mentioning this to this thread because it is a CineForm file, not believing this has anything to do with CineForm...

...going to jump now, anyway

best
Andreas

Leave the bad file on the firewire B and rename it as bad.avi, then copy the good version to it again. Maybe there is a bad spot on the disk?

LOL LOL LOL

No words men, I have no words... It worked ! I still don't believe it but it worked ! LOL !!!

Thanks for a billion time
Andreas

...and here we go again... after defragmenting the drive it does it again. Same frame and all...

Andreas

I repeated the procedure without afterwards defragmenting and its OK for now. We'll see... Doesn't make any sense at all.

Hey David,

I 'm having 2 repeating problems with PhrospectHD

1. i enter the activation code and it works fine for a while then it will want the activaction code again. It will treat the program like a trial version with 15 days to enter the code.

2. The old EC_ERRORABORT notification 0x80004005. This happens quite often at least once per conversion attempt. I can go in and change a setting and it will work, but the next time i get the error i change the same thing again and it dosen't work. several attemps usually will allow me to actuall do the conversion, but i have to reboot the HVX200 a few times.

1. We believe a couple of Microsoft updates messed with our activation system on some PCs. It should settle shortly with the new release due out early May.

2. Copy the data off your HXV200 and convert on the hard drive, not over firewire.

Hi David,
I just finished messing around with Prospect HD trial. I am impressed. I am using HDRFX1E files Cineframe25 converted from 1440X1080 to 1920X1080 and I get 2 real time streams with P4 3.6. With a third stream I get droped frames but no red line yet. You should consider changing the minimum specs ! By the way you where wrong saying that 1280X720 down convertion reduces noise (I have read about this many times, still don't see it). With ProspectHD and upconverting I get somehow a littlle sharper image and the noise is extremely minimized.

I need some explanation on Quality Controls: Decode 4:2:2 sources to 4:4:4. Does that mean that I work in 4:4:4 and when export to CineForm HD Optimized I get 4:4:4 also ? Or I switch it off before exporting ? Please explain. Obviously I don't understand how this works.

best
Andreas

Thanks for the feedback. You may have notice Prospect HD is just release as v3 now.

We added 4:2:2 to 4:4:4 as more and more using are doing keying projects with CineForm. But as you are using Prospect HD, when you export back out to CineForm you only get 4:2:2, only Prospect 2K has the 4:4:4 export option. So should you level the 4:2:2 to 4:4:4 on or off? Well this will slightly impact multi-generation performance, so if you are going between Premiere and a compositor a lot, turn it off, otherwise it is pretty safe to leave active.

David, I suggest that you do a makeover to this page. If one dosn't read everything carefully will think that the NEO line is actually replacing the old products ( Aspect, Prospect etc).

Andreas

I agree, I was confused a while.

David, I can not find the gateway at the CineForm website to the update from Prospect HD-E, to the new Prospect 2K-E?

Thanks in advance.

Edit: David, please disregard, the CineForm upgrade email notice arrived the next day. Nice free upgrade for the Prospect HD registered users to Prospect 2K 4:4:4, wow.... Thanks.

Can any of these programs rewrite an MXF video file? The reason I ask is because I have a 35mm adapter which flips the image. An ideal program for me would be one that will read an MXF video file and then rewrite a "flip-flopped" MXF while maintaing all other original properties. And a batch process would be great.

I prefer to stay in the MXF format and edit with Avid. The problem within Avid is that my source footage is upside down until I move it to my timeline and apply the "Flip-Flop" effect.

I'm open to any suggestions on this . . .

David,

I can't seam to batch convert even 3 files from .mfx to .avi. I dub all footage to HD then attempt the conversion. I am also having problems where the whole file is not converted I have to check each file manually to make sure its their. Does it have a checking utility that I haven't found?
I get the impression that it really dosent like to batch convert diffrent file formats, but when they are the same it is no longer working either.

New Prospect 2k instulation
