CineForm

Hmm I suppose what I mean is that for a strange reason when I do a conversion it saves the new file in the same drive/folder as the source file. I suppose the "select folder" button should be there for a reason (my request is technically canceled !) but it doesn't work in my case. Looks like a job for... support.

You are looking at the wrong control -- "Select Folder" was added for first batch conversion for the new Sony DR60 disk recorder -- you can just point to the drive and it will convert everything. For converting to a different path, go into the "Prefs" panel where you can select the "Capture Location" to be use as a conversion path via the check box titled "Use Capture Location for converted files."

Yes, indeed. I was foolishly 100% it was the "Select Folder" button to look at anything further. Thanks.

I have Cineform's Prospect HD
Can CineForm 10-bit HD .AVI files be converted to SD .MOV files to be used in FCP? Can .AVI files captured with HD rack be converted to 10-bit CineForm .AVI files.

Yes and Yes. For converting to SD MOV files, use either AE or PPro to export the SD MOV from a CineForm timeline/file. For HD Rack AVI use HDLink to convert them to CineForm AVIs.

CineForm vs HDCAM-SR

CineForm vs HDCAM-SR

We just did a Viper shoot to test the difference between uncompressed, HDCAM-SR and CineForm compression. Looking for some keying skills to test out the different images. Please see the post on my blog : http://cineform.blogspot.com

David, I purchased AHD a few weeks ago.(Even though 3 attempts to have an activation code emailed to me prior to expiration have gone unanswered) I tried to use HD Link to convert my mxf files but had no luck. After I placed the files in the source bin, it would freeze up and the log stated that no video file or device was present. I went back to my trusty Raylight codec and converted that way. The mxf's were 1080i/24p I imported them to PPro 2.0 and rendered them de-interlaced. After an hour and 1/2 for 22 minutes of footage, the chroma was very low along with saturation and contrast. I used a few Cineform CC effects to sample a short clip. It improved it alot but again took alot of time to render. I am using dual xeon 3.0 processors with 2 gbs of ram and 750gb of SATA Raid 0. I am open to comments to improve this workflow for normal longer projects.

The activation system is automatic. you should get it within minutes of feeding your information into the form. Are you sure it is not get eaten by spam? File a trouble ticket with cineform.com/support for your activation and fixes for your totally messed up workflow. Raylight is very slow for conversion, that is part of the issue. Of course you need to have the P2 Viewer installed if you want fast conversion through HDLink -- the results will identically maintain your source saturation and contrast. If you are running x64 your P2 Viewer will not install, so that might be the issue. When setup correctly, conversions should be fast, and those color filters real-time.

David

I hope you can help me address this issue. I have exported my Cineform avi files from PPRO2 and playback of these files are fine (audio in sync w/ the video). The issue is: I am now exporting my feature through Encore and it seems as if the audio is just slightly out of sync with the video. I was thinking at first it was an Encore related or Dolby Digital encoding related issue but the reason I think it is something to do with my Cineform files is because in my bonus features of the DVD I have DV avi files (non-cineform encoded avi files) that playback in sync.

So, basically my audio drift only occurs on any files that I have exported w/ the Cineform codec. Worse comes to worse I could always just use DV files instead of Cineform, but the Cineform video files look SO MUCH BETTER!!!

This would be fine if my interviews were supossed to look like a japanese kung fu show, unfortunately it's not gonna work for this project :) Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
Ronnie

Check that the im-CFHD_File_Import.prm file is located in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Encore DVD 2.0\Plug-ins\en_US, to make sure our importer is being used. Also load the clip back into Premiere to check the sync. The same importer is used for Premiere and Encore, so if there is a sync issue, it will show in both.

That file is in that directory. I loaded the cineform file back into Premiere and it plays back in sync (as expected). When I preview the cineform avi files in Encore they play back in sync, as well. It's just when they are written to DVD that there is an out of sync issue. All of the files that were exported from DV timelines (bonus features on the disc) are in sync on the same DVD. Hmmm...

Please let me know if you have any ideas because I have a little less than a week to get this project out to the replicators.

Sounds like an Encore bug. If you export to MPEG from Premiere does the audio issue go away? How about uncompressed AVI (yes very big?) In both case our importer is used to create the file.

David

You beat me to the post... yes there IS an Encore bug that I have found out. So, hopefully if anyone else ever runs into this there is a solution. It's not a solve all solution, but it worked for this project. The audio sync issue I was having was coming from the fact that I had multiple avi assets in one single timeline.

Here is what I found:
"... this is entirely because AC3 files encode to fixed block sizes of 1536 samples, and unless you got the durations & running times worked out in multiples of that amount, you will inevitably get a slippage. This will be true from Premiere as well as from Encore, as stacking clips will try to go from Block 1 = Frame 1, but with the audio progressively longer than the video, it doesn't work.

So my solution was creating 12 timelines and linking them together as a "playlist". Again... this isnt a solution for every problem like this- fortunately for me this project was sectioned out with a dip to black at the beginning of each so the transition is pretty seamless. Sorry to hijack my own thread here, just thought I would share what I had found in case someone else does a search on this.

Thanks David. You are always a great help- Jake, too.

...Oh yea- do you have a reason that Aspect HD keeps losing activation information? I have talked to Jake about it a few times over the past few weeks as I have had to re-activate my AspectHD 3 times in the past few weeks!

Thanks, Jake finally was able to help me activate the AHD. The first activation code was invalid, maybe due to a spam filter. I'm glad now I can re-convert the washed out Raylight MXF's I did yesterday for tests. I need to also spread out the file locations from the mxf and the converted CFHD since the long render times (I think) are being caused by a bottleneck within my 750gb raid0 sata drives. I have read that PPro likes all the preview, capture and avi files in different drives to avoid the bottleneck.

Hi David,

I am trying to view the program window full screen into a second monitor, in PPRO2, AspectHD. With a laptop, nvidia GeforceGo 6800 256MB, DVI cable, dual view mode, playback settings/enable overlay surface checked. What do I do wrong ?

Thanks
Andreas

Hi guys,

Sorry, I been away from the forum for a bit, and there are a few questions I've missed.

roro20,

Activation issue have come up, we only have a theory that a Windows update messed with our sercurity system. We are looking into it.

Jim,

If you have RayLight installed your conversion times will be slowed up to 3X. That is likely the issue. There is tiny quality advantage to Raylight as the decoder for conversion, but it is hard to see, I not sure if it is worth the render time.

Andreas,

Work with the NVidia manual to get MediaPlayer to run in a window on your primary and full screen on your secondary monitor. Once it works with MediaPlayer, it will work with Aspect HD.

I found my cards full screen controls and both WMP and PPRO2/AspectHD work as it should, now the problem is that the full screen monitor does not keep the corect aspect ratio vertically and it starts playing a second after I hit the play button. Nvidia controls are a mess.
