CineForm

The CineForm AVIs are fast, easily faster than a native DVCPRO-HD MXF file, so you do get acceleration using Connect HD alone. However if you are going to use Premiere Pro, Aspect HD is the way to go. Aspect HD includes all the conversion features of Connect HD but it also acts like a hardware video accerator with Premiere (without HW) with a real-time video pipeline for Aspect HD own transitions and effects. Think Matrox without having to open up your PC.

Any chance you will be tweaking some of the effects for future versions of Aspect HD in Premiere? I love the realtime of your color correction tools but find them too simple. If you would at least add RGB color curves I'd be really happy.

And I guess I'll ask this since it directly relates to my desire for RT curves. In Premiere Pro 2.0 I notice that rendering of a simple CC using curves takes 10 times longer than the same CC on Premiere 1.5. Did Adobe change something drastically in their color tools that are causing such a decrease in performance ib the 2.0 version?

Thanks.

Yes and Yes. We do intend more advanced color correction support in a future update for Aspect HD and Prospect HD. And yes Premiere Pro color tools are slower than before, yet they are greatly improved also.

I am testing AspectHD 4-1 (Panasonic HVX200 1280x720 24p, PremierPro 1-5), when I want to export AAF Premier crash, anybody have some experience with this?

By greatly improved you mean.....???? More accurate? What is the benefit to them that takes so much longer for simple color correction? Especially when editing plain old vanila DV?

Don't get me wrong as I am doing more and more HD.....but my initial trial of Premiere Pro 2.0 with DV was so dog slow I went back to PPRO 1.5.

There are more color correctors in Premiere Pro 2.0 than 1.5. The new three way color corrector doesn't have an equivent in 1.5 -- it supports secondary correction and a new float point processing. The "Fast Color Correction" used with curves is a lighter version of what 1.5 had. But yes again there is clear a need for CineForm acceration of more advanced color correction (although you can still do a lot with the current Aspect HD RT color correctors -- particularly when stacked.)

he he he... yea, this is the super wize, extra democratic aproach of panasonic ! No drivers for those who do not pay for the device ! I downloaded Connect-HD trial only to find out that it cannot work without P2 viewer (wich is fine) that doesn't work without P2 drivers (wich is not fine since we cannot download them without serial number)
For my taste this is a stupidity. The same goes with 15-30 day trials. As I have always said it will be more wizer and future customer-friendly if we had unlimitited time trials but without the save option for example, or with a big watermark allover the place. I hope companys finaly uderstand that THERE ARE PEOPLE WILLING TO BUY YOUR PRODUCT BUT WE FIRST NEED TO TAKE IT FOR A TEST DRIVE...

well iam testing some hi-def image-sequences encoded into cineform and it works really nice on dual xeon 2.8, quality is superb, however my hvx200 -> raylight -> cineform experiment doesnt look half-good, wonder why?

(i thought raylight doesnt do any reencoding?)

Aspect HD was updated to version 4.1.1 (build 59), this brings the HVX support out of beta and addresses a couple issue found in 4.1.0. Beta users or Aspect HD customers, please uninstall any previous version and update to 4.1.1 (available for trial download and purchase from www.cineform.com.)

David, when converting 720P 24PN, does the file size remain low (lower than regular 24P with pulldown)? Is it still native after conversion?

Thanks for the updates to your software for the HVX. I'm drooling.

I did an impresivly smooth converison with Connect HD and went to a friends house that has PPRO2. I am not realy impressed from the workflow and I am saying this having worked with Edius V3 trial and the same clip at native DVCPRO-HD. Another thing is that the file from 176 MB became 183 MB after the conversion (I did change it to 1280X720 though and chose the large file option). Any thoughts anyone ? David ? I uderstand that the recomended workflow is with Aspect HD but I am not trying to put the blame to cineform here, ruther to Premiere ! As it gets is quite useless without external suport. I can't wait to try the cineform .avi with Edius V4 trial.

The size will remain signicantly lower than 24P with pulldown. The size of the resulting AVI maybe smaller or a little larger than the source MXF data, plus the AVI embedded two of the four audio channel, where as the VIDEO MXF has no imbedded audio. The reason the size can change is we convert the 90's style CBR DCT codec to a modern VBR Wavelet codec design for post production, so no this is not native, and it is designed not to be for good reasons. Once you in the CineForm codec you post workflow is easier and can maintain high quality throughout multiple generations.

Yes, we truely don't recommend PPro for HD work without Aspect HD or Prospect HD. Your friend should try the Aspect HD download on his PPro setup to experience the difference (it will not hurt his other PPro modes.) Our largest user base for Connect HD is for Sony Vegas users. Others also use Connect HD if they are doing mainly compositing work. How Premiere Pro really need the acceration of Aspect HD.

Regarding the file size see my previous post. The 176MB to 183MB bump includes to two uncompressed audio channels and a 33% increase in pixels (as you scaled the image up to 1280x720), so infact the CineForm codec is more effecient than DVCPRO-HD.
