Other: CineAlta Full Frame 36x24mm Camera event on September 6th

If one looks at DxOmark sensor scores in the "portrait" category (i.e., the optimal conditions), it has the Phase One IQ 180 medium format sensor ($43,000 camera) rated at 26.5, with Sony A7RII rated at 26, Nikon 810 at 25.7, Pentax K1 at 25.4 and so on. Top cinema camera - not that they rate many - is Red Helium at 27.5, with Epic Dragon at 26.5. This tells me that, with the current technology, the deviation under perfect conditions in a single frame is minimal.

PS. In terms of auto focus, the current sonar or laser aided system counts the distance, thereby allowing the operator/focus puller to dial it in manually off the lens marks. The very high end auto focus systems connect via the remote focus and adjust everything themselves but those can cost tens of thousands of dollars. And Sony already has the technology, though Canon is currently the only company that employs auto focus in its Cinema series (C100, 200, 300, 700).

Yep the blokes in the factory need to be masters.. there is a limit to what we need to know about sensors.. it is not like we are going to be knocking up a new sensor in the shed at the weekend.

The old ENG me of 4/5 years ago would have agreed with you 110%.. and yes I dont think we need to know every techie detail in the little box cameras have become.. but knowing the sensor of your camera is quite critical these days.. I didnt know that about the f35 sensor.. never used it.. but if I was going to, that would be very valuable info..

I wonder the mount.. still FZ..? you think it has to be PL for the high end.. but maybe more like the fs7 PL (like) E mount with a bunch of adaptors .. end of the road for the FZ mount..? always a bit of a strange one..

FZ is a good thing. It's a big heavy duty smart mount that can be adapted to pretty much anything. Sony includes a PL mount with their Cinealta cameras.

Yes I know ,I have a Cine Alta camera.. Im by no means knocking it as a mount.. but it is an anomaly ... only 2 cameras actually in production .. AFAIK.. just thinking out loud really.. they see to be going this "agnostic" path.. and a few other recent cameras also seem to have gone with various mounting options .. but I agree more than likely FZ or just straight PL.. which I believe the f65 is.. if the camera is a massive success maybe lens makers will start doing FZ mount lenses !

I'll be at the event for Newsshooter. I'll have interviews, pics and video. I think this is a camera will be a rental only. Not for purchase. Just my opinion. It's designed for feature filmmaking. I think it's going to be a beast.

I know times have changed, but there are lots of us who have bought more than one camera that cost more than a nice new car. Too bad most of them now aren't even worth as much as the set of tires on one. Lol.

Will be interesting.. wonder what the mark up is on these cameras now a days.. or its like a Rolls Royce where its not good marketing to make the price too cheap.. even if they could.
If an Fs7 can be sold for such a low price.. no one could believe how cheap that camera was when it first came out.. cant see even the top end should be over $40,000 at most.. unless they actively want to make it "exclusive".. could be wishful thinking though.. should have a contest.. I recon $35,000 -$40,000.. :)

A few months ago, there was some grumbling - or was it rambling? - about a $30,000'ish camera with the F65 sensor. This looks to be double the price (or more, if prorated for the commensurate rental fees as a "rental only"), which still leaves plenty of room below it.

But if they price at the same price as FS7 - $8K, they would have an instant back order of a few years :-)

I notice a lot of people buy brand new camera, then sell off before the warranty is over or next generation comes out

I don't really know anyone personally who does that on a professional level. I see some people on here who chase the "latest and greatest" and sell off quickly(also on still photo sites), but most professionals I know and work with use their cameras until they can't anymore, so to speak. I still have my original 27H VariCam and I have friends still shooting with their HDX-900's. I just spent most of the week shooting with one of my P2 Vari's that is over six years old.

My 2004 HDCam cost about the same as a 2004 Cadillac Escalade. Without lens. Now it's worth less than a 2004 Hyundai...

Rates were different then.

So, any early leaks yet?

About the new Cinealta not, although I had an email from Vocas (I visit their booth every year at IBC and have their accessories for my FS7) stating that their accessories for the F5/55 will me compatible with the new one.

For the new Sony CineAlta camera Vocas has a lot of compatible products, such as the matte boxes and the Vocas Sliding System. The base plate for Sony PMW-F5 / F55 (0350-1000) is also compatible with the new Sony CineAlta camera. This base plate transforms the camera into a true shoulder camera and makes the camera compatible with many other support systems.

And maybe more...

Makes sense that the new Cinealta will keep the same form factor, also,it was stated by Sony that AXS-R7 recorder and viewfinder will compatible.

On the other hand, Sonyalpharumors is now saying that something more will be announced, with a big press event happening in Japan too. So it may be a new E-mount camera or the A7s III that might also be showcased at IBC this year.
