Im new with the HVX200, and tried to transfer the content on my p2 card with imovie. It didnt work, and several internet forums confirm that, so I want to try out another video editing program. For the time being Im only experimenting with the camera and I dont have the 400 dollars for Final Cut Pro, so is there some affordable video editing program for beginners? I want to cut my P2 HD recordings on my imac with the easiest and cheapest way.

Thank you.

To be honest, if you don't have $400 you have a tough road ahead.
If you want to natively work with the .mxf files, and you have access to a PC, you can try SpeedEDIT. But even with discount options, you'll be close to $400.
I really wish you luck!

So I have to buy an expensive editing program. That sucks. Thanks for the luck wishing though, I will figure something out.

Well if you are in a school you can get FCP for $600. To be honest if that's too expensive maybe you should sell your camera and get a job...

If you are a student (or, ahem, know a student), you can get Premiere CS3 (which unlike FCP, can edit P2 natively with no transcoding or mucking about with quicktime) for only $350.

Try ebay. There are usually always Final Cut Studio 5.1 (the oldest you should go) for sale.

The Academic version can't be upgraded to FCS 2 so the prices are low and may vary from $50 to $250.

A lot of negativism out there I see.. Well, Im not selling my camera, and Im not using several hundred dollars for an editing program just yet. Im really happy with the camera, and what I see others have done with it. I saw some old FCP on ebay. I think that will be my first step. Im up for making some magic with the cam, but I need some time to get experienced. Im getting there. Anyway, thanks for the advices, guys. I think I will go for Adobe after summer when I get the student loan for next semester.

Um that would be pirated software- link deleted. I personally have no problem with ghetto-cam questions but please do not come here looking for advice on where to get the best deal on illegal software. If you can't afford the most basic tools you need to get to work earning some dough my friend. Lordy....
