Definitely looks interesting, but that promo is awkward and ugly! I love seeing pro features trickle down to consumers because it means the price for that tech is moving down.
So I watched it again with my wife and it's not ugly but I agree with my wife's statement, "I mean I get what they're trying to do, but they could've done better."
The promo felt cheesy and unsophisticated to me and I think many consumers would agree. The acting was hammy and amateurish and the music felt very basic and stock. I don't fault the producers of the promo, but rather it's more likely the direction Panasonic marketing reps steered it. In the days of smart advertising campaigns from Apple, GoPro, and Coke I find this to be a poor representation of their product in the market.
To me these cameras will appeal to adults with children who are at least mildly tech savvy and as such I feel the promo was not in touch with the audience. This felt more geared towards grandparents and tech newbies, who may purchase this, but I doubt are the target for the worlds first prosumer camera with HDR functionality.
I cerainly meant no offense to it's creators, who's check from Panasonic I am sure is larger than anything I've worked on. Maybe it's just from being a Monday that it hit my funny bone lol.
http://www.theverge.com/2015/1/5/7494863/panasonic-4k-blu-ray-player-prototype-ces-2015Current Blu-ray players can only play 1080p content, which is going to be a big issue as TVs increasingly move toward 4K. Fortunately, the Blu-ray standard is being updated to support 4K, and now Panasonic is announcing that it's the first company to develop a player that supports it. Panasonic showed a prototype of its UHD Blu-ray player at a press conference in Las Vegas this morning. So far, there's very little detail on it, including when you'll actually be able to use it. Previously, it's been suggested that 4K Blu-ray players may hit stores by the end of the 2015. It's clear that Panasonic's Blu-ray player needs more work, too: as far as we could tell, it doesn't even have a disc drive yet.
There are also millions of smartphones that have a 4K UHD mode and the low cost no contract 5.5" $299 OnePlus even shoots cinema 4K (4096x2160) .In order to sell more TV's they have to put UHD cameras in the hands of the consumers. It's pretty simple. HD is old. Nothing new. Just like SD before it. Right or wrong thats pretty much what is happening.
