Capturing clips from P2 slot to FCP 4.0?

So I'll start off by saying that my HVX was chosen over a DVX to be future safe, I'm not even thinking about HD at this point running such RAM as my eMac does... hohum. I'm working on an upgrade, just not right now.

Now according to everything I've read, you need FCP 5.0 or above to IMPORT the contents of a P2 card, but while I have tried and have not found much luck, I have not read that you cannot indefinitely CAPTURE directly from a P2 card running under 5.0. through a HVX200.

Has anybody had any success under any particular settings or via the aid of some super third-party software? Or am I going to have to invest in some miniDV's :crybaby:

(Apologies, I am a huge P2 newb)

Final Cut 4.5 was DVCPro HD native, which was the "huge" selling point as they tagged it as Final Cut HD. I agree with David, and also don't believe that FCP 4.0 would work. You should be able to edit on FCP 4.5 or newer, though on 4.5 you won't be able to import your P2 cards directly. You would have to convert the MXFs to QT somewhere else and bring them back into FCP 4.5.

I was just playing with Raylight for mac a bit tonight. If you upgraded to at least Final Cut Pro 4.5 , you could probably use Raylight to make QT reference files and import them for edit that way.
