Can't move a folder w/ P2 footage

Hey guys,
I shot a wedding with two cameras. One of the cameras used a P2 card but only for about 15 minutes. I have all the footage and the FCP file and Render folders and all other info for the project in a folder on my desktop, but I can't move that folder to an external. It is taking up 29GB on my desktop so i want to get it to an external but when I try to move it a dialogue box pops up saying: "sorry the operation could not be completed because an unexpected error occurred." it gives me that same message no matter which of the four externals i try to drag it to...
help me out
I am sure it is something basic that I am just missing

if its fat32 (windows) formatted. you cant move any single folder bigger than [i think its] 2gig
you'll have to make a new folder and moved all the items in groups of individual items
