Can't import off of P2, 1394 device disconnect...

I know this probably has abp, but I just can't seem to find the best answer for my problem.

I just got an HVX200. I set all the correct settings for importing. I have a Macbook Pro Unibody running Snow Leopard and I also have FCP 7. I know I can't download the drivers so am I screwed? Also the firmware on the HVX is like 2.0 if that even matters. I REALLY don't want to downgrade back to Leopard.

Why can't you download the drivers?

In any case, try just setting your HVX to USB Device mode. I think on the newer implementations of OSX, USB mode works fine.

I just wonder what the OnLocation/HD Monitor and Scope folks will be doing when MacBooks completely stop shipping with firewire on them.
They've already got a problem because all the AVCHD and XDCAM-EX and AVC-Intra cams don't stream firewire. Those codecs can't be streamed to computers, so -- looks like they're going to have to rewrite their software to support HDMI or HD-SDI capture.

OK, I'm not running Snow Leopard, but I am on a Mac Pro. You do not need drivers to mount the HVX/HPX via firewire. period. I have never loaded any P2 software on my Mac (except FCS, technically speaking). All you do is connect the cable to the camera, turn it on, put the camera in PC mode (previously having set the menu to "1394 Device" mode"). The P2 card(s) will mount in the Finder. It is that simple.

Then drag and drop. I always WP the cards first. Verify that your transfer is correct before you reformat the cards. A good solid, but slow process, but it ties up your camera.

(Actually, I use a duel adaptor on a PC to save P2 cards, but I have used the above workflow on occasion.)

Firewire mini is indeed 4-pin without power, the problem comes in when you try to plug in a 4-6 cable. The computer has a six-pin, which does supply power, and if you misalign the 6-pin it can send power down to the 4-pin and blow it up.

Windows laptops have 4-pin firewire ports and never a blown port on either side (camera or computer). But 6-6 and 6-4 can have problems.
