Canon's Upcoming RF cinema camera rumored specs

There's definitely still a weight advantage for an all-day ronin-s shooter like me to using a mirrorless camera like the A7SIII over the C70.

A7siii with battery = 1.35 lbs

C70 + BP-A30 + metabones speedbooster (assuming that the Canon version will have similar weight) = 3.5 lbs

The 1DXmk3 is 3.17 lbs with battery and memory

Cool Camera. Cool concept. I would need an EVF and IBIS to justify buying it. I am probably not their target market but since a lot of the demo videos were handheld, smaller type productions, then who would be their target market?

I thought I saw in the BH product video that it had IBIS?

I don't love the video samples Teddy posted. The skin tones look nice, but overall I'm not wowed.
...
That's because you just saw the Alexa LF + Signature Zooms videos.

Heyoooooo ...

As to the recording bit rate, an SD Express card is 4 GB/s. Long GOP, short hop, it all fits.

The camera has a lot of potential for C300 III and C500 II owners and Canon has it's reliability signature with the Cinema line. Sadly though no EVF and no raw option to take full advantage of that sensor, they could have at least added 6k to create a bigger vibe. The A7S III has external 16bit raw option and the awaited FX6 is supposed to be full frame and most likely will have a raw option. I think Sony will let Canon enjoy this release for couple weeks before announcing the FX6 next month.

I think it has electronic image stabilization, not mechanical/physical. Yes, EIS has a not-great history. But perhaps with more processing power it's acceptable in the C70? Definitely something to check once the camera's out in the real world.

And bummer that the audio controls are covered if the LCD isn't flipped out. And... Well, compromises; whatcha going to do?

C70 is really looking like a gimbal/B-cam for C300mk3/C500mk2 owners. Or a camera for those who can't afford the more expensive cine cams. But I guess that's exactly what it's supposed to be.

No EVF, and the tripod mounting plate has all the holes sideways on the bottom, so you CAN mount to a professional tripod, it will just not be as secure as it could be. Not sure how the camera is realistically supposed to be operated?

I was thinking something similar, but it was how in the hell does Canon still manage to give us actual, physical audio dials and switches in otherwise ergonomically “compromised” cameras, but the likes of Sony and Panasonic stick audio in the MF’ing menu(F55 and VariCam LT/V35).

This is a bit of a longer more in-depth review with footage. There are controlled over and under exposure tests compared against the C300MKIII and C200 starting at 35:21. The C70 fares pretty well:

Looking interesting.

There are still some odd "mirrorless" design choices, such as HDMI sticking straight out the operator side, so, not feeling terribly better than an RF, but is bulkier.

Main good, is the audio controls.

Overall, excited for the direction Canon is going. Almost a realization of the 1DC concept, and considering how bad camera companies have been designing for "video dslr" the last decade, gotta see this as a small win. Albeit a small chunky win.
