C500: Canonrumors [CR3] C700 coming in September

Not sure yet if it's called that, but seems like new line, similar to Amira perhaps. Lot of speculation, but CR3 is very very ofted solid stuff...

We’re told that Canon will announce a new Cinema EOS camera the first week of September for IBC, which runs from September 8, 2016 until September 13, 2016 in Amsterdam.
Internally the camera is called the “C1” we’re told, but that it will not be called that when it is released, and it is not a follow-up to the Cinema EOS C500. If we had to guess again, we’re looking at a Cinema EOS C700.
We started talking about an true ARRI competitor as far back as 2014, and this appears to be that camera. This could be Canon’s version of the Amira.
The camera will employ a new Super35 sensor with a claimed dynamic range of 15 stops, the same sort of claim made of the C300 Mark II. The form factor will be different than the current Cinema EOS cameras. There will be likely be some kind of a shoulder mount. We’re also told that the resolution will be slightly above 4K, but we don’t know exactly what it will be.
We’re told this camera will support anamorphic lenses, which we’ve seen a patent for recently.
Price wise, we’re probably looking at at least $30,000.
We have no idea what will become of the C500 follow-up, as it appears an 8K camera from Canon won’t be coming anytime soon.

Well....S%^t...your in luck! The C100 Mark II has been out for over a year!


Now...if your referring to the elephant in the room....the C100 III...thats something I think most people would be interested in....including myself. Not gonna hold my breath for that one though. Been waiting on 5D4 for like 3 years.
 
yeah just seen that and added a "I" ..well my turn but good news for you....5D4 will be out this year it seems...
 
if the 1DXII doesn't have LOG then I'm not expecting the 5DmkIV to have LOG. argh! also i find it very weird that the 1DXII only goes up to 12,800 ISO in video mode (or might just be the limitation for 4k video...not sure). I'm also hoping the C100mkIII shows up by the fall. since the C300 mkII is so loaded with killer video specs (codecs) I'm even thinking the C100mkIII might have at least 4:2:2 8 bit which would make me happy enough. PLEAE A TOUCH SCREEN!!! also DPAF with face detection. even if its not quite as good as the C300mkII but much better than the 70D AF.

The 1DX II is limited to 12800 ISO in 4K mode. In HD you can shoot at ISO 25600. Clearly they don't want competition against C300 II. For stills they have allowed ISO 409600. Though all the high ISOs in stills mode are not useful except for when you are sighting a Yeti - that snowman, or so such exceptional uses. So if someone feels that the hardware is not fast enough to do noise reduction in 4K video at high ISOs, let them give us whatever is possible and let the users judge if the quality is acceptable or not.

Don't expect log mode in 5D IV if they don't want to include it in 1DX II. Canon feels log is pro and is a differentiating feature. So DSLRs except (1DC series) won't get it, unless Canon Gods in Japan relent. And they will only relent if they feel that without this feature they are going to be uncompetitive. Remember in C300 Mark I they increased the ISO to 80,000 from 20,000. That was because of a threat from FS700.

At the moment they don't seem to find any threat to the 1DX II, so the present limitations in ISO.

That new Panavision cam with the Red Weapon sensor inside may force a few companies to release something competitive. Allegedly, ARRI will sit the 2016 out and will deliver the Alexa replacement for the 2017 NAB. But, Red Weapon is out; Panavision Weapon is going to be out in half a year; this C500II/C700 will be shown at the IBC and probably released sometime early 2017; and Sony can't be too far with their Alta Cine upgrades either.

This is the normal product cycle time for Canon DSLRs. 3-4 years in between models is what I expected all along. Now will it be much of an improvement? Probably on the video side as the MKIII was so soft.

As to the C700, I just don't see the business aspect of making these high end cinema cameras. Seems like a lot of chasing for but a few spots. If everybody loves Alexa and RED is active along with the big Sony cameras then include the C300 II & Varicam, what is the appeal of another option in a C700?

Was just thinking the same thing going back into this thread.....who cares?? A bunch of elitist film makers whom 95% of us will never be or afford to try and be either..
 
5DIV August-September very much sure thing. Strong rumors that it has been basically done by August last year, mark III sold well...
LOG doesn't do much as these are all 8-bit under C300mkII and that's the problem with Canon. FS5 just got Raw for $5K, come on!
I don't care if C100 Mark III has only FullHD as long as it would have 10-bit recording with decent codec. Just wont happen tough.
All hope lies with Magic Lantern, if 5DIV can be hacked then that's going to be amazing with CFast cards. Can't wait!

There is anyone that could explain me in the markting point of view why in the hell in middle of 2016 canon dont have any 4k products under the c300 mark2 ?
Its the biggest market share of users, the mirrowless a6300 are selling like bananas...

C500 (with 7Q+)

So they do have 4 cameras....though I admit...they don't check "the right boxes" for me.
 
I said this before on another thread.....and maybe it is getting older etc but having owned a 5D3 and C100 Mark 1..I found it a pain to have to bring two different cameras for photos/video.

I would love a SLR with the form factor of a C100....then I would buy 2 and be happy for years with that setup.

As as would I....and most I suspect. Unfortunately Canon doesn't really care about what its customers would like. They care about methods to give just enough of what it's customers would like to keep them coming back....and them selling more units.

Yep. I have no doubt Canon could have released the camera of our dreams at the price point we all want 5+ years ago. it would make no sense for them to do so though....and cost them millions. Same with Apple.....ect.
 
I'm not sure that I agree.

They run the risk of loosing customers to the compitition, which I think has largely happened. No?

I think your logic is right...but...the reality is....what we (DVXuser) might think is a large part of the market leaving Canon may not, in reality, be what Canon believes important. They may get so much revenue from other avenues that they believe to be more profitable....they could consider the "ship jumpers" nothing more than "trimming the fat."

I suspect a substantial amount of irritated lower market videocentric customers is not too much of a concern to them...as they are focused on other markets.
