Canon XH-A1 rebate check slow?

I'm beginning to worry that the XH-A1 rebate deal is a problem.

The company that fulfills the checks, RebatesHQ.com, is taking an incredibly long time. Frankly I've lost confidence in them.

I originally submitted my rebate materials on 5/11/07. Sent them certified mail, return receipt, so I see RebatesHQ received it on 5/14/07. On 5/22/07 I received an email from RebatesHQ.com, with a link to their tracking website, saying "Your rebate is valid. Please allow up to 30 days to receive your rebate." Ok, good news! So I wait.

On 6/6/07 I check the website again and see my check has been "issued." Great. I figure it's on the way.

On 6/26/07, the check still has not arrived. US Mail does not take 20 days. So I call RebatesHQ.com. They tell me the check must've been lost in the mail. They confirm my mailing address - they had it correct - and issue a new check.

Aside: Mail to my address has never been lost before. Ever. (To my knowledge.). But ok, the check was lost.

So I wait some more, continuing to monitor on the tracking website. The second check is "issued" on 7/5/07. I wait some more. I get another email from RebatesHQ.com on 7/11/07, saying "We are pleased to inform you that check number xxxxxxxx was sent to be printed on 07/05/2007. Please allow 15 days to receive your check."

It is now 7/17/07, and I am starting to get a sinking feeling that the second check will not be arriving either. Yes, I realize it hasn't quite been 15 days since the second Issue Date, but this is preemptive and I am getting royally pissed.

No matter how you slice it RebatesHQ is incredibly slow. And if the second check gets "lost in the mail," I would like to warn others that THE CANON REBATE DEAL IS UNRELIABLE AT BEST AND MAY BE A SCAM AT WORST, and to call on this community for suggestions as to how to rectify this and finally get my g-d money. At this point I should be charging them interest.

Canon and its customers need to know that RebatesHQ is at best a sloppy operation and at worst a scam.

There's another thread at dvinfo.net about this, so I know I'm not alone:

Any suggestions? People with similar problems? Who can I contact at Canon if my second rebate check fails to show up in 3 days time?

It's definitely not fast. I sent my rebate June 14th, and about 2 weeks it was 'received, further processing" or something. I just check for the first time in a bit, and it's at the 'Your rebate is valid. Please allow up to 30 days to receive your rebate.' status.

Scam is a bit of a push.

Let's also not forget that there are indeed people who received their rebate check in in a timely manner. My XH A1 check actually arrived fairly quickly, much quicker than many other rebates I submitted in the past for other items.

HTH,

RPK and mayodaze, I agree with both of you. But again, my post is preemptive, because at this point I'm actually not expecting the second check to arrive. After all, it was "issued" on 7/5/07. US Mail does not take 13 days (maybe to Alaska it might, but I'm in NYC).

Also, I didn't mention before, that when I originally spoke to RebatesHQ on 6/26/07 to get a second check issued, the rep told me it should arrive by 7/13/07. That day came and went, so now I'm working off the "15 days to arrive" timing.

I will post again with whatever happens.

Rebates in general is a crapshoot. I hate them. I got some very quickly, and some never. And it doesn't matter who is the rebate processor. When I bought my iBook from Amazon, I was fighting for my Amazon $100 rebate for 9 months, before they finally credited my account with $100. It was a nightmare. Most of the time, I try not to buy items with rebates - the hassle is just not worth it. Of course, when the rebate is something like $500, I guess I can't pass up. Still hate it though. Let's face is - rebates are designed as a scam from the get go - it's a way of getting an apparently low price so customers flock, and they know a certain percentage won't apply for a rebate, or won't fight for it long enough - so that becomes pure profit. Unethical.

I'll let yall know here about how mine goes about.

I could use that $250 to live.

Rebate check arrived today

Rebate check arrived today

Check arrived today! So here's what I conclude:

1. The XH-A1 rebate offer is decidedly *not a scam.* Full retraction on that.

2. RebatesHQ/Parago is indeed slow. In some cases the full duration (15 or 30 days) is needed for your check to arrive. And checks can apparently disappear in the mail.

3. Keep an eye on your submission, and if it takes longer than it should, call Parago. If problems persist, call Canon. In short, stay on top of it, and you will eventually get your rebate check.

So that's my two cents - good luck to everyone on this.

Alright, I got my rebate today.

I sent it in, priority mail, 6/18/07.

I received a confirmation email, citing further processing, 6/29/07.

Check was sent, 7/18/07.

Received today, 7/26/07.

Sent mine in on the 20th. On the 26th of July it says, "Your rebate is valid and is scheduled for final processing." It's now the 30th and still says the same thing. Hmmm. Not too slow for a REBATE, but who knows how long it'll stay in this status.

It'll be in that status for a while. Then it'll be in another status for a while. All in the end, about 5 weeks later you're good baring any bad luck.
