C100: Canon XC10 Info & Pre-Order Link Texas Media Systems

ISO 500 for outdoor shots, 5000 for the “indoor working place”

5000 looks great, i don't like the clipping in highlights after 1:10 (window)

Unusable, Why? the image is absolutely lovely, Johnnie ''used'' it to make this,

i agree the images are very good, but if I can't focus using the diopter correction it is borderline useless. Also it appears that changing setting may be so difficult that the camera is not very good for run and gun.

Guys, thank you for taking the time watching the video and commenting.

philiplipetz, the diopter is not the problem. The thing is, the supplied "viewfinder" (the piece that can be connected to the LCD screen), is poorly designed. The glass quality inside is not sufficient causing distorted image on the edges and un-even focus points.
Hope Canon can correct it before going mess production.

Thank you!

Johnnie

I really wanted this camera but the more I see come out of it the less thrilled I am. The highlight handling, especially around 1:05 with the flowers, is atrocious in my opinion. I wanted to use this camera for some int'l doc work coming up, and matching C-Log would me amazing. But from everything I've seen I'd rather run 5Ds for B cams. I still think this camera will work for corporate, some news, etc but for creative work I'm feeling less and less drawn to it.

This camera has received quite a bit of bashing, but I'm still curious about it.

Here in Switzerland it costs about $1899 and that sits just above the normal high end camcorders. A few years back I bought a Canon Legria HF-G10 and at the time I'm sure it was $1300. Really haven't used it due to typical video image characteristics: aliasing and blown out highlights.

The XC10 seems very usable with its combined sensor size, log profiles and 4k resolution. It's a camera to throw in a bag for family outings, bring when skiing and just have fun with on my Ronin M.

I know Johnnie can handle a camera, but some of the images are needlessly harsh. Was this perhaps Wide DR (a popular doc choice), or really Canon Log? There might be some LUT issues going on in a few places?

With this sensor, AF, 4k and Canon Log I can't help but think it should be pretty flexible. Media costs is a bit of a turn-off currently but...

Poorly designed loupe sounds disappointing.

Nice new avatar!....going for the scruffy look!......We had the XC 10 here for two days this week for a seminar/open house (units start shipping next week from what I understand) and I was impressed. We also had DJI here so we were able to fly with it and recorded 1080 footage. The goal was to see if there were any rolling shutter issues and I 'm happy to say, there were none!....I know some might say there is no global shutter so there has to be some RS but not in this case. The XC-10's great processor required to handle the "big boy" 4K has a nice side effect, it speed negates any RS issues.
We think this cam is going to do well with what it was designed for...drones, gimbals, "D" camera, and crash camera...all recording the big 4K codec.

ps- Andree, I'm flying in to Zurich in 2 weeks!....July 3rd LX41....make sure we have a good landing!...and have a cold Appenzeller Quolfrisch waiting for me please.....

Good to hear the new shutter is working well.

Can I just ask, does it only have manual zoom no power zoom and 1Cfast slot?

NO power zoom is a problem for me.

Be aware of that exchange rate. There's a reason why the camera is only $1900 there.
I'm well aware...this is my 26th trip there and with going every 6 months, I become accustom to the dollar dipping just before I get there!......When I first went in 2002, I gave them $100 and I got back 130SF. In 2008 when everything went south, I gave them $100 and I got roughly 70SF back...ouch! Now it's getting closer to 1 to 1 but....with my luck, it will go south the day before I get there next Friday.
