Canon wifi remote

I have a c 300 which I really love . Honestly it's the best camera I have owned in many years. I bought the wifi remote for the camera which is turning out to be a huge disappointment . I can't understand why canon would release and accessory that is such a piece of crap for a superior camera .

I have managed to get the device to work with my iPad and can control the camera , but the controls have such latency and the connection to the camera is so unreliable even at short distances that its practically useless.

From my experience so far With the wifi remote , the best thing canon could do at this point is to buy them all back just to take this piece of poison off the market and keep it from sullying their reputation.

i will allow that I might be generalizing too much from my own experience so I would like to hear a bit more from other people who have had some success with the wifi remote on the c 300 before I ask to return this'd ear priced ineffectual piece of kit.

I bought it too when I got my C300. I think when my camera is on a jib it's the perfect accessory, as I can monitor in real time via hdmi or sdi. I didn't expect to use it much when I bought it, it's more of a convenience or nice to have feature when you need it. I haven't experienced any reliability issues since I set it up.

I've found the wifi remote to be very good for what it is. It seems to be reliable and works happily up to 20m or so.

The latency is about half a second and image on the iPad is fairly small - so it isn't a replacement for a proper monitor. But if you are in a fast moving run and gun environment and a second person needs to be across what is being shot, its a great help.

Very happy with mine.

What I find frustrating is the unreliable connection between my ipad and the camera which seems to go dead far too frequently even at close range and cant be restored. At this point either I have a set up problem or the wifi remote really is a $599 POS and canon should buy them back.

Do either of you have problems with the connection between camera and mobile device dropping out or going dead after a a few minutes or commands being issued tot he camera?

I find the connection to be pretty good. If you don't use the iPad for a little while and its screen turns off, you may need to re-select it in the iPad's settings as the wifi network then reload the page in the browser. I keep meaning to see if I can set the wifi remote as the default wifi network for the iPad - as that should fix it.

But I haven't had any drop outs in use.

What are you using for settings ? maybe my configuration is wrong . I used a video posted by abel cine as my set up template which sort of got it working, but like I said, my connection has been pretty unreliable with the iPad . For instance, i can establish a connection and and adjust iris or focus once or twice and then the controls on the ipad become unresponsive and nothing works after that .

Set your IP address manually. If you set it automatically it will change every time you turn off your camera. I was having connections problems, then I did this and all is well.
