Canon Unveils New Prosumer HDV Line: XH G1 and XH A1

That is extremely great news...I hope the XH G1 and the XH A1 score that good!

Expect even slightly better score when compared to H1 with standard 20x HD lens :) The electronics inside G1/A1 may have the edge since they constantly improve the technology. It's often the case even with the same model. "Specifications are subject to change" and usually it means "better" :) H1's advantage is in functionality, not image quality. This opinion is based on preliminary specifications, but I'm very optimistic because G1/A1 use the same core system as their big brother.

ok guys theres some big issue with the pricing of these cameras in UK, i know they are still to come but theres like a £300-£500 difference between the prices just among two resselers

calumet price

A1 £3,231.25 inc Vat
G1 £4,698.83 inc vat

Proactive price

A1 £2,696.63 inc vat
G1 £5,046.63 inc vat

what are these guys up2? another thing it says buy it now on there websites & i was expecting them to start shipping in october so are these out or the calumet & proactive dont know what they are doing?

anyone seen any lower price for UK for A1?

They're preselling, which is common. You buy it, they ship it when it's in.

I'm getting restless... the appx. release date is annoying and I'm about ready to just go 50/50 on an HVX with someone else...

I'm too impatient.

Seems Canon are keeping the actual release date quiet for now.... cant get an exact day as yet in Japan.

Maybe Sony has them worried. I hope they kick out a lower price. If they sell for $3,999 and Sony puts out a couple of cheaper camera's it might hurt them.

Are you seeing any new Sony's over there. Just the internet rumors and leaks here. but they look like they could be more than rumors.

Very interesting, long lasting battery inside, 25F, great image control, good handling and long recording. Wide lens, long lens. High resolution.

Hey! this looks like a cam I can shoot with in the remote world, shoot high res / long time and create the 'look' you like. Lets wait.

i want to see these things in action, they look quite amazing. how close do you think 24F is to true 24P? i read on some thread that panasonic actually has the patent on 24P, which is why canon cannot has to call it 24F. Again, this is what i heard, not necessarily what i believe. thanks.

Look at all the footage on the web. It's close enough to not care at all.

The cadence is identical, the image is high resolution and shows no interlace artifacts. It's also more motion artifact resistant than standard 1080i HDV because it encodes progressive images and allots no bandwidth to anything but 24 frames per second.

I believe some schmuck has a frivolous patent for calling video "24p" and charges a hefty licensing fee for it.

Elton I have been reading like an insane person lately. I see many things that say basically its not true progressive and therefor $)@*+. Whats your take on this? I mean you know the canon format pretty well.. can you set it out in a simple manner?

Are the samples from HDV tape or from the SDI?

Almost everything is raw HDV or HDV originated. I've only posted a few shots that are raw uncompressed SDI to alternative codecs like DV100 and Sheer.

The Beachball girl clip I posted earlier was raw SDI to DV100. Here's the exact same shot (a little longer) captured as raw .m2t from tape. http://www.realm.cc/upload/Elton/BeachballGirl.m2t (48 MB)

Background info: I recorded HDV to tape while also capturing the raw SDI into a G5/FCP with the Kona card set for DVCPRO HD 1080i recording. This actually allows you to capture the non-HDV compressed SDI signal, but also simultaneously record a safety backup of HDV to tape. It's only when you PLAYBACK an HDV tape while in VCR mode that the SDI has MPEG 2 compression.

My take is simply this: The F modes are progressive results by different means.

24F looks and feels exactly like 24P should. It drops a slight amount of resolution compared to normal 1080i (and 1080i res is pretty insane) but doesn't show interlace combing artifacts on movement. The CCD's are clocked correctly and the shutter speeds correspond with correct 24P.

If you look at Disjecta's clips you will never see anything that looks different from 24P. This is how 24F is; it's 24 frames per second recorded to tape with repeat flags added for standards compatibility. (edit: this is only for 60hz NTSC standards--PAL users don't need repeat flags for 25F)

Blah blah blah yadda yadda yadda.

It just works. :)

Sorry ncje but if outside there are specific threads on the subject why to post here with such questions where it's already a general and an out of control long long thread?

EDIT -- For sure, we need a mod here!

Ok I will try to answer this in good spirits.

I know Elton knows his stuff with 24f, and just wanted a quick reassurance contrary to whats said elsewhere. I knew Elton could provide just that and certainly in the vain of his response he didnt seem to be fussed by it.

Other than that, I follow this thread daily and am proactively trying to add release info etc as it comes to me here in Tokyo, not that there is any, but still posting what I can when I can to support those that are interested.

The question I have to ask is why take it personally and have a go at me? You know what I am tired of lately? People jumping up and down over such petty issues.

Now this post is what I call a waste of space.

Of course, not... It isn't a big deal! And Barlow answers wherever you ask for his precious help. I posted for me if not for others too. As reader. And for the benefit of all. Including you, for sure.

Of course, yes. Your inputs are welcome and so much appreciate. Specially you in Tokyo where you have a privileged location.

The question I have to ask is why take it personally and have a go at me? You know what I am tired of lately? People jumping up and down over such petty issues.

Nothing is waste of space when people are communicating. Please don't take the things personally, at least from myself. :) No worries! You were just taken as example and...you know what I am tired of lately? Or I must add: from ever? As if we (the Canon believers) were Cinderella...

The point is: we dvxuser.com members need for a well-organized space here @canon_sub-forum. We have already a non-official mod and if there isn't already an official answer, at least, we can't difficult the job.

'cause if 50 pages is insane for the hvx sub-forum, it is also for us. We need here for an open and dynamic sub-forum like it happens @dvinfo.net if we want success in our info search as well our find.
