I wonder what percentage of 7D sales are to filmmakers vs photographers.

Wow...I really wish they didn't go between stills and video in that YouTube presentation. The stills shots make it painfully obvious on how much resolution is lost between the two formats.
Maybe it's just the "Tube."
Damnit... I JUST ordered a 7d the other day. I think I'm gonna go ahead and keep my order, but if the only major difference ends up being the 8fps still shooting then my 7d is going to be on the used market very soon.
I think it might be youtube. Here are some other picture samples.

What does this record in? AVCHD? Or something else? Same as the 7D?
No there are a ton of differences between the two cameras. At least when it comes to stills. For us video guys though, there may not be much if anything. Time will tell.
Probably about 5%. Consider that a professional camcorder like the HVX200 sold 60,000 units in three years, worldwide, and that when the D90 was introduced Nikon projected that they would sell 130,000 units.I wonder what percentage of 7D sales are to filmmakers vs photographers.
And none of these SLRs are aimed at us anyway -- they're aimed at "photojournalists" who produce video for the web. We just so happen to want to adapt the products to our usage, but we're not the primary audience by any means.
Because they found out that we'll buy 'em.
But listen to them and they'll tell you exactly who they designed this for. They designed it for photojournalists.
I actually think the video mode will be very similar in quality. I imagine a lot of the extra expense of the 7D is for the still photo specific features like 8 fps frame rates, dual DIGIC 4 for those frame rates, more advance AF, weather sealing, 100% pentaprism (instead of a pentamirror), top LCD, wireless flash, etc. The video mode is really just a bonus feature. It's already been developed and implemented in the chip, so they're probably reusing most of it from the 7D without much change. At least that's my theory.
Long time reader, first post! Thanks to everyone for all the great information over the years...it's now my turn to start contributing as well!
One thing it looks like the 7D, GH1, etc. may have over the T2i is 100% viewfinder coverage vs. 95% for the T2i. This could be a problem in some situations (boom mic, etc.), although we dealt with it on the original DVX's for years. Live HDMI out (does anyone know if the T2i has it?) would obviously solve this problem. If I'm wrong about the 7D and GH1 having 100% coverage, go easy...it's my first post!
