Canon Rebel T2i

Certainly spices things up! Also, I agree, I would have kept my D90's if they at least had manual video controls. Now this is going to be really interesting not only because of the price bracket Canon's going for but also because we'll probably soon get to see what Nikon will release to compete.

I think it's obvious by now that Nikon doesn't care about video. Which is really unfortunate considering they have the least to lose by offering great video on their DSLR range.

Don't be too sure. there was a rumor that Nikon was developing video RAW. However, it was never clear if this was a lab project that will never get productized.

Well anything is possible and I'd love to see that. Hopefully one day we will. But so far they don't seem like they are putting much care into the video side of things.

I'm curious to know the bitrate this 550D shoots at. As well as what its jello effects (or hopefully lack there of).

From the specs, Is, video-wise, the only difference from the 7D the fact that it is a single processor? That does affect image quality? thanks

I wonder if the digic4 is capable of readout of a 1920x1080 sensor without any detectable skew.

It would be cool if there was a was to rotate the primary CMOS sensor block to reveal a video-specific sensor when video is being shot, and then back when shooting stills. Otherwise, expect the same video quality (or worse) than the 7D.

1920x1080 = 2,073,600 pixels

So we're throwing away 16mp of info, and not in an efficient way (moire, pixel binning, etc.).

I am interested in the sensor crop (7X) mode, but it's in SD only. I can see that being the next feature in a newer version of the xD series in full HD (no skipping/binning?). In this implementation, would this turn a 200mm lens into a 2240mm focal length? (200x1.6=320x7=2240) If my math is correct, that's some zooooom!

Interesting times...

It costs $1,000 less than the 7D. It would be optimistic to expect the same video quality, and only reasonable to expect it to be not as good.

I actually think the video mode will be very similar in quality. I imagine a lot of the extra expense of the 7D is for the still photo specific features like 8 fps frame rates, dual DIGIC 4 for those frame rates, more advance AF, weather sealing, 100% pentaprism (instead of a pentamirror), top LCD, wireless flash, etc. The video mode is really just a bonus feature. It's already been developed and implemented in the chip, so they're probably reusing most of it from the 7D without much change. At least that's my theory.

Yeah, this is cool and everything, but what would have made this announcement better is if it were followed shortly by that long awaited 5DmkII 24p firmware update.

Wow...I really wish they didn't go between stills and video in that YouTube presentation. The stills shots make it painfully obvious on how much resolution is lost between the two formats.

Maybe it's just the "Tube."

I don't think it will hurt 7D sales as much as it will D5000 and D90 sales.
I wonder if it doesn't overheat?

Damnit... I JUST ordered a 7d the other day. I think I'm gonna go ahead and keep my order, but if the only major difference ends up being the 8fps still shooting then my 7d is going to be on the used market very soon.
