Hi,

i have never had a lens like 70-200 for example. I'm asking me if there is a big difference.

If i do not have the IS / Stabilizer, will the Image / Film be more unstable?

I could find some test on youtube, but the wrote the under comments that was fake.

Please help

I need a lens for make film only.

I highly recommend lenses with IS if most of your stuff is video. Especially if you are considering the 70-200.

Hand holding a t2i with a 50mm lens is problematic. Micro jitters will be noticeable in viewing, not matter how steady you are. I'd say anything over 50mm requires IS.

I've pretty well given up on hand holding (unless I'm using a wide angle) and use a tripod almost all the time.

IMO, the only canon lens worth getting the IS feature on is the new 100mm 2.8 macro, its the only one with the new IS technology that works more like a video camera IS, all the rest are not worth the added cost IMO.

You can literally shake it like your on crack, and it keeps still. Saw a live demo of it on the Vincent Laforet DSLR workshop, pretty sweet.

Anything other than that, use a tripod, shoulder rig, steadycam, or slider.

The 100 2.8 L macro IS is AWESOME!!! My wife and I use it almost as much as our 24-70 2.8 (no IS, of course). And for those who might not know, you can use it as a regular lens, not just as a macro lens. It's really sharp!

I watched the same workshop. Didn't Laforet say that there was a "Version 2" of the IS coming out ifor the next round of Canon glass?

I got the 70-200 f4 non-IS. My use will be more for photos and find that for daylight/action IS is not really needed. If I use it for video will use a monopod/tripod with it. If you going to do video hand held with a telephoto lens, then I think IS is a must.

Even with IS a telephoto that long on a APS-C sensor won't create good results with video, handheld. Your audience will need a barf bag. (If someone has good handheld at 150-200 mm, please post it.)

A tripod is required, unless you're a neurosurgeon. You probably won't be panning though, so a fluid head may not be necessary :)

Went out and did some testing today with the 550D and 70-200 f4 non-IS. As I thought it is useless for hand held video. Monopod is fair. Did not get to try a tripod, but would assume it would be fine and with a fluid head work good for pans. I am sure the IS version would be better for hand held/monopod. But for me, I would not use it anyway because for situations where a telephoto would be needed for video, I have a HMC40.
