Canon Eos One 4K video camera - and Jackie Chan

That is an insane price drop. I guess its a sign of what Canon plans to launch at NAB this year. I am guessing there is going to be lots of 4K video capabilities in Canon's near future

Yeah it looks like they'll have something that'll compete with the FS7 in features if not price. I can't wait to see what it is...

Without revealing too much about your business: does that mean you have to actually take a loss on them? Sorry, I have no idea how it works with dealers/suppliers/retail.

No we don't....Manufacturers usually cover the dealers when there is a price change......

^ Neither did BlackMagic when they introduced their first camera...
BMD was very clever. They did not go for the mass market like GH4 has, as an example, but picked an underserved pro niche with affordable Raw and a 2.5K Pro-Res cameras. Their manufacturing costs couldn't have been that high because they weren't competing across all sectors with all-around hybrid products. And, much like Red, BMD struggled coming out of the blocks with their quality control and delivery timelines.

I think they had made good money with the Cinema Camera and the Pocket but their last two releases - BMPC4K and URSA - have been lackluster and it's becoming very hard for them to navigate waters from now on, as all of lucrative market niches begin to be filled up. There's the low end 4K camcorder and system camera segment currently occupied by LX100, FZ 1000, NX500 and soon JV5. Then there is a DSLR video market where GH4 is tussling with NX1. Then there's a step up in LS100 and AF-200 (presumably) with some 5D 4K derivation a few months away. And finally, tapping out BMD production and design potential, there's FS-7, CION and, going even further upmarket, C300 MK II.

Which leaves Black Magic with scant pickings.

IMHO, they are dropping the price not because canon has revolutionary new products at NAB...but because OTHER companies will... If canon had new products at NAB, the price drop would have come earlier and more steady; not as frantic like it is now. It's almost as if someone at canon just found out that their competitors was going to release a break through camera, and the only way canon could compete was to drastically lower their price...

And they will have a new announcement.....

If this wasn't frantic.. Why is the drop in price so drastic? Why wasn't it paced out? Surely, they would have made more profit pacing it out. Not to mention, people who have bought these cameras a couple of weeks ago wouldn't be so upset. Very strange...

I wonder if this means the new Canon cameras will be ready for sale soon? Like in boxes waiting to be shipped soon?

Yep, that's it. There are boxes and boxes of new, revolutionary canon camera's ready to be sold right after NAB. Unbeknownst to canon however, it's warehouse is full of "older" cameras and to temporary store these new cameras, canon has decided to get rid of their old cameras by having massive discounts... Likely story, eh???

When has that ever happened in the history of canon?????

Bought a Panasonic DMC FZ1000 , changed my mind. Just re-adjusted the how I shoot.

Like a lot of of us on dvxuser, my first "real" camera was a Panasonic fixed lens camera. I actually regularly shoot with eng style cameras to cover events (ex3s, ac160s etc) and they work really well for that type of job. For my personal work, which is almost exclusively narrative, I like to choose a focal length and grab the appropriate prime. I've even invested in a set of primes and a couple of zooms so that I still have the flexibility of moving fast. For me it would be better to invest in a super-zoom than this camera unless I got into drone stuff.

Disappointing for both as product demo, as footage released representative of anything too, too much actually. Shouldn't it be supposed to be 4:2:2? What the hell these guys have in mind for such poor presentation?!

for c300 mark II - Congratulation, 10bit, 422, internal recording, new codec.
The price is as usual with Canon.
Sorry, wrong place.
