Canon Eos One 4K video camera - and Jackie Chan

Here's an article of the rumored 4K Canon video camera. It was unveiled in China. It looks like it's the real thing.

4K
1" sensor
Fixed Canon 10X zoom, 8.9 - 89mm.

Looks a bit like a C100 to me, albeit smaller. I wonder if the grip rotates as well?

I realize there's a discussion in the Canon camera section about this camera already, but unless you're looking up info specifically on Canons, you might miss it.

So a consumer Cinema EOS for the masses...

Looks completely video orientated - ooh a red record button ;)

Not a canon fan, at all, but good to see something different coming along.

Well, you have to admit it doesn't look good... 1" is a 2.7x crop, basically the size of S16 or the pocket. With a 10x f/2.8-f/5.6 fixed zoom, you're stuck to deep DoF (it's equivalent to a 24-240mm f/7.6-f/15.2 on a FF camera).

4K 60FPS and 1080p 120fps, good codec, c-log would make this cam very interesting tool to use. I doubt Canon will give us all that. In fact, I will be surprised if any of these will be included in this camera.

But imagine that they cut the C series EOS sensor down to 1" that would give the equivalent of three sensor color.

I work for a nonprofit and we need a couple of 4k cams to hand to rank amateurs so that our editor can reframe and stabilize while editing for 1080 delivery. Nothing yet meets our needs. This might. With sufficient light it might be more than adequate, assuming that it has good audio in XLR ports. If you don't care about shallow DOF it might be much more than that.

Don't assume this is a low end camera. If it has a C series EOS sensor I predict a price of $4k, at least.

If this 4K canon has all that, and the NX1 gets a log-like gamma, then they'll be basically matched. Except the NX1 has a sensor with 4 times the area, takes interchangeable lenses, and the Canon will probably cost twice as much.

Pointless? Fixed lens is a deal breaker for the kind of work I do. That is the (fairly obvious) point.
What Darren is saying is what your grandmother told you....."If you don't have something nice to say, don't say it at all"........meaning you could have nicely said " for my work, a fixed zoom won't work for me"....
To much trash is getting thrown around here when DISCUSSING cameras so why don't we all agree to be a little more civil here on DVXuser.

As for the fixed lens, it is said in the article to be an optical zoom. That sounds good to me for certain applications.

Yeah would be interesting to see what the full specs are.

Kind of looks like one of those DSLR fixed lens cameras with a eye piece accessory.

Seems interesting and probably has its uses, but lets be honest, this is not the camera most of us are looking for from Canon. At least based on things everyone has said. What we really seem to want is a 70D that shoots 4K with a 4:2:2 option, a log mode, 13+ stops dynamic range and no extreme moire/aliasing or rolling shutter. But either Canon doesn't want to deliver us that product or they can't.

A poster on Canon Rumors wrote that this won't be at the NAB but probably released for the summer travel/vacation season.

Why wouldn't a fixed lens work for specialized use? A GoPro has a fixed lens and I see those on professional sets all the time.

This is not meant to be your only camera, it's just another tool for the bag. If the price is right, and the image is right, I'll be buying one to use on my Ronin.

This could be sweet for aerial work as well. Lots of complainers on here for a brand new camera that hasn't released any images yet.

For me the lens destroys any interest I had in the camera. But if a person has no interest in shallow dof it might end up being a decent camera.

From my perspective this camera is an innovation.

I applaud Canon for creating new things. Bravo!

I am very interested in Canon One.
