Canon ENG B4 Lens on GH1

At least in Canon lenses, pinout of important pins is:

1: RET button
2: REC button
3: Ground
6: +12V

This is for Hirose 12 pin connector. I don't know (although I'd like to know it) what is the pinout for 8-pin connector.

I'd like to know the 8 pin as well.
I know that the 6 pin Hirose push-on type is the same as the 12 pin. But the Ikegami style 6 pin screw-on type is different.

Does anyone see any potential problems using 8 AA batteries to power a Fujinon servo? Any ballpark ideas on what kind of life I could expect with such a setup?

Should be fine. Lenses normally shouldn't use too much power so I would think that you would get quite a long life out of AA batteries - just a guess but I'd say at least a full day of continuous use (not continuous zooming all day, but a normal amount during shooting).

I used a homemade battery box with 8 AA batteries to power my 12 pin lenses. It worked just fine. The batteries should in theory last a long time, but I discovered immediately that I didn't like servos and removed them to save weight so I never found out how long the batteries would last.

Hehe. Yes at first I thought about powering a servo, but since the GH1/GH2 are not really suitable for an ENG type setup (usually) then it doesn't really make sense and I never got around to modding any of my lenses with power zoom. I take the servo off usually too.

12 pin B3 powering

12 pin B3 powering

Unfortunately while trying to wire the servo on my Fujinon (pin 6 +12V and pin 3 GRND) it started smoking. So I ruined the servo. Advice to anyone else attempting this, you might want to put a fast blow fuse inline just in case.

I dug out an old circuit diagram for the Canon J8 B3 (Ikegami mount), the 12 pin Hirose is shown as follows:

Pin 1: +ve
Pin 2: -ve
Pin 3: Gnd
Pin 4: VTR
Pin 5: RET
Pin 6: ID/CO (Iris control)
Pin 7: IE/IND (Extender indication)
Pin 8: AT/RM (Iris remote selection)
Pin 9: AT/MA (Iris manual selection)
Pin 10: P.P
Pin 11: Z/IND (Zoom position indication)
Pin 12: F/IND (Focus position indication)

It uses a split rail supply. I did convert the electronics in a B3 lens to be controlled by a Sony camera many years ago and I seem to recall I generated a 6V supply using a regulator for the GND, +ve being 12V and -ve being 0V and everything worked very nicely. All a long while ago and I have a very bad memory so proceed with caution though.

Hope that is of some help to someone

Hello.
Someone does not sell the lens and the adapter to gh1 the forum? And how much? Thank you.

I just bought a canon J15x9.5B 9.5-143 m f/1.8 TV zoom lens and I'm hoping to be able to fit it to my GH1 and the AF 102 when it arrives.... but I have no idea where to start!

Am I right in assuming that it's a B4 mount? if that's the case is this the right adaptor?
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/B4-2-3-CANON...49746?pt=Lens_Accessories&hash=item3a63da3bf2

or is there a cheaper option - can I manufacture something? (taking into account the fact that I'm about as handy as a back pocket in a singlet)

It'll arrive in a few days and I've got the chance to send it back if not satisfied - if I can't buy of make an adapter in that time - how do I tell it's in good condtiion (apart from looking at the glass?)

if I can get something like this working well, it would make life a lot easier for me shooting events.

The model number tells you the mount.

My model number was J15x9.5B4 (see B4) I'm not sure if they have a B mount, but if they do, it would seem that is what yours is.

I'm considering selling my J15x9.5B4 lens with cieco7 B4 to m43 adapter, if anyone is interested...

I have a b4 to nikon mount adapter if anyone is interested. it is unused . its made to be used with a nikon to gh1/gh2 m43 adapter to allow you to use a b4 eng lens with your gh1/gh2 camera.

i paid 220 shipped. will sell it for 185 shipped.

I have some already converted ENG lenses I'd be willing to sell. Each has a doubler and a custom machined (by me) micro 4/3 mount.

Fujinon A12x9 18-216mm f3.4 untested servo
Fujinon A14x9 18-252mm f3.4 untested servo
Fujinon A17x9 Phoenix 18-306mm f3.4 no servo
Fujinon A14x8.5 Pegasus III 17-238mm f3.4 sticky servo

Email me any questions or offers. I've moved onto other kinds of lenses so these are just sitting neglected.

Does anyone else have some raw or edited video shot with these lenses? I just got a great deal on a GH1 14-140 hackable kit that was a forgotten floor model. I love this idea because I have shot with ENG cameras for the past five years and this seems like a nice transition, plus I just love smooth manual focus.

Here is some video I shot with my modified Schneider 14x9 B3 mount lens (now Nikon F mount) a while back on my GH1.
Smooth manual focus and smooth manual zoom. At the end of the clip I turned off the extender and you can see how much it vignettes without it.
There is CA in some places, and there is distortion near the corners, but other than that I think the image is quite pleasing.

Thank you for the post, that does look good. It is nice to get to see real world usage of the lens, not perfect, but definitely yields footage that I can work with. I definitely want to start my new "kit" out with an ENG lens. I had not planned on buying a camera for another few months, so first I have to pay for this guy, before I can have fun expanding my collection. I just can't wait until I can put it up against my coworkers 5DmkII. My poor little panny doesn't get too much respect because of its name and svelte size. I am glad to have a forum of others to bounce ideas off of.

Finally got my charger and my Nikon G adaptor! Headed out on the town tonight to get some nighttime footage to test out the mic and the camera. Here is my baby all dressed up. Now time to work to pay for an eng lens.
