Canon ENG B4 Lens on GH1

when zoomed out completely (117mm which works out to almost 400mm!) I get some edge distortion on mine. Otherwise I do believe it is one of the cleanest and sharpest lenses I own..

The GH1 manual says you can do a 2x digital zoom setting in video mode. This would eliminate vignetting on 16mm and 2/3" format lenses.
Yes, but let's be very clear on this -- it's horrible. The 2x digital zoom is exactly that -- a digital zoom. It extracts the central portion of the image and then digitally scales it up. So you end up with a lower-than-standard-def blurry image.

2x digital zoom is of just about zero value, as you could easily do the same thing in post and probably do it quite a bit better than the in-camera option.

Now, there is another option, the "extended optical zoom", which does exactly what we all wish it would - it creates a full-res image from the central quadrant of the chip. However, that mode is not available in video mode, only in stills mode. If Vitaliy could work a miracle and enable the extended optical zoom in video mode, then you'd have full-rez 1080p with about a 16mm image circle, thus making most (if not all) of the cheap/wide c-mount lenses and the 2/3" lenses work as intended.

(but, of course, you'd have 16mm DOF)

Barry, I will be talking to the manufacturer on Monday and will let you know the price. But there isn't anyone else committing to purchase one yet and if that is the case by Monday, you may have to pay the full price like I did. Anyway, I will PM you on Monday and you let me know if you still want to purchase it.

I also take one!

Barry, timbook2, and gmoe,

I just spoke with the manufacturer and he generously agreed to lower the price of the adapter to $195.

So please paypal me $195 plus whatever amount that you like to spend on shipping. My paypal address is bumkicho@yahoo.com and it will be shipped from zip code 49002. I am thinking $10 for CONUS and $20 for elsewhere, but whatever amount you send for S/H will be used to ship the item to you.

I will wait for the payment by 11p.m EST today.

Let me know after you send the payment.

Received.
The adapter will be shipped on July 31st, the day after I arrive back in US. I cannot wait to see the footages with B4 lenses on GH13 (or on AF100 when it comes out) from you! Do you have a certain lens or lenses that you have in mind to try first?

Many thanks Bumkicho for sharing your findings and negotiating to get a small discount on the adapter. Safe travels & Looking forward to the adapter!

Thanks, gmoe. You will enjoy shooting with B4 lens on GH13!!

If anyone else is looking to get one, we have till 11p.m. EST tonight.

bumkicho,
wanted to get one but couldn't justify the cost since it would be a toy for me and not a tool.
Hope you have a great trip.

No problem, lvlinux.

sometimes you just gotta realize you got enough toys in your hands ;)

I am wondering about timbook2. He sounded like he was really wanting to get one, but no response to my PM or nothing. Oh well.

Barry and gmoe,
Your adapters have been ordered!!

Money sent.

Looking forward to test it with my Fujinon A14x BRM-28 1:1.7 8.5-119mm (with 2x extender).

Should work great - the Pegasus III is still a VERY VERY fine lens. I have seen a Pegasus II be sharper and have less CA than some of the cheaper HD 2/3" video lenses. And the Pegasus III should be even better. I have two of them and a Pegasus II, and I'm about to mod one or two for the GH1 (permanent mod). Haven't tested it yet, but I'm sure it should work awesome. I'll let you know the results if I get it done before you get your adapter.
Many people think that the only lenses that are any count are the newer ones, and tech has improved, but high-end older glass is still very nice, much nicer than cheap new stuff, even if it has the "80s tech" look to it :-D

I also just modded a Schneider Variogon 14x9 2/3" Video lens a few days ago. Haven't had a chance to test it much yet, but so far it seems nice.
