Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS

Currently I'm selling my 75-150 manual nikon zoom because I picked up something better and that is the 50-135 AIS which I started that thread about. (see link in above post.) I use old nikon manuals for every shoot I care about including all my personal films. My setup tends to be 11-16 then AIS primes at 20, 24, 35, 50 then the 50-135 AIS zoom.

However there is a need for family stuff, vacation time, recording castings, video storyboards and location scouting etc and often you don't want to be weighed down by heavy L zooms. Especially if you already are carrying laptops etc. That's where the 55-250 comes in handy because a 70-200 is so freaking heavy I have to plan for its use.
I wish there was something better than the 55-250 but not as high end and bulky as the 70-200.

I do understand where you are coming from, but with that lineup of quality lenses you are shooting, you're never going to like result from that 55-250. I was going to get that lens too because it seemed like a solution until I look into it. Another problem I have is between the hours of HD video material and thousands of 5k stills I shoot every month or week, my time on the computer editing is 5x what it was before I got this DSLR, and that's just my personal work in addition to clients projects. The image quality level has become so high that if I see a soft shot I delete it without thinking. I have enough time look at that soft shot, as it takes me to hit the delete key.
Let's have a happy ending here. Find a better lens that get's you close to the range you need, up to the sharpness you are used to shooting with your Nikons, and I will go out and buy the same lens. I'm looking to but just haven't found it yet.

I'm not a fan of IS. If it's to long to get a steady shot hand held, then IS won't get me what I want. Anything up to 50mm I can get very steady hand held without IS. Since I started shooting HD video with a DSLR form camera, I found since I have to hold the camera out in front of me the the fat Canon strap around my neck acts as a good brace to push the camera against as I move around.
Anything longer I'd use a tripod. Personal taste, we all think and shoot different.
The one thing we all can agree on thought is sharper lenses is what we want. In this case the Canon 55-250mm zoom is not very sharp with or without a tripod or IS.

lol, too serious man.

All of the clips from the 55-250 I have seen look great, it might not be the best but for local gigs in the $500-$1000 range it works fine. In the future with better paying jobs my lenses will also get better

peace

My DSLR is my b-cam. I just have the 18-55 kit lens and the 50 1.8. i also have a Century .7 wide adapter, Arri matte box, rails, dolly, 2 jibs, Sachtler tripod, Bogan tripod, 2 Miller heads, 10 lights and a pile of other shoot gear. The EX3 I have 5 rentals available cheap so I'm gearing up with the DSLRs and will eventually weed out the EX3.
I decided to pick up the Tamron 17-50 2.8 this week for the price it's a good swap for the kit. I also have about every Zuiko prime and zoom, but no adapter yet.
