Canon Confirms 24p And 25P For 5D via firmware update!!!

IN the manual control debate, the same sources that said no 24p said YES there WILL be manual controls. I even called the date out for a few people and, down to the exacts, it happened. So it's evident that there was just some mind changing.

There are a few of us that really do speak to more than just Canon Reps, honestly. Things just changed for the better. Good deal for everyone.

No more visuals about hair in your crack, though. That mental image's stickin' far too long, man.
I only did that because I know you have a wicked visual imagination. I think the whole thing is amazing how many things have we complained about from the big three and never saw a change. Maybe people will be more pliable to consumer demand in this abysmal economy.

Corporations are run by people, people change their minds. S'all.
I would phrase it differently: those who do real stuff, those who make decisions and those who push products are totally different people. To get truthful info from a rep requires that it is (a) technically feasible, (b) approved by management, and (c) the rep knows about both (a) and (b).

Thanks. I really needed that. The visual image, I mean. I've been eating so much lately and you just remedied my ail: I lost my appetite.

xD

Canon is cutthroat. I'm glad that they dropped a 24p Announcement, not glad that it wasn't an immediate update. Come on now: 2010? I guess beggars can't be choosers, but I can surely make with a knife if'n they don't bring the 24p sooner.

Glad I could help, I wish that was enough to keep me from the table. Good question on the hold up. Since I'm not a stills guy i'm wondering if it has to do with the imminent release of the 1D. Eventually all these camera bodies is going to get ridiculous. And we still get to see what Jim's gonna do in 10 days!

I think Good ol' Chip wasn't wrong at all. I mean, you just announce an expensive camera then backend it with "This other awesome camera will now get 24P." It's just odd.

I really want my MKii to have 24p now. It just increases the rental value and longevity AND the frequency of how much it's going to get used. I was just on the edge of getting another 7D since these suckers roll out so much, I think I'l add one more 5D instead...

I hate technology.

Good thing is that I think nothing good's gonna come around with APS-C sized or Full Frame flavor for the next six months. So I can regain financial footing. >=T

Agreed. finally a few month of peace - oh wait what was that about scarlet :violent5:

I am so glad I was proven wrong about the 24p 5dii update, what do you do when top Canon execs say it's not coming, call them liars?

It goes to show the power of these boards and what you guys can do to be heard from people high up and make them go against everything they have said in the past. You guys should really up the efforts and take this seriously, no telling what we will see in 2-3 years :) I am one of the people who did take the time to request the 24p 5dii update after I was told it's not going to happen.

This is awesome and my car hasn't been turned into a 24p burning man video yet :) guess I still have 8 months.

So how many 5dii owners can sit around and wait for 8 months?

The other really big thing to take from this is that Canon has set a pretty high bar. Although it could be higher, its definitely going up quick. What this means is that if competition heats up, all the other players will want to offer the same features in order to keep market shares from slipping. Hopefully we'll see even more FF/24fps/1080p/manual control cameras in the market.

In an earlier post someone mentioned 29.97 fps.

Does anyone know - with this update will 30 fps = 30 fps, or will 30 fps = 29.97 fps???

NOONE bought a 5D with the intention of waiting around for 24p......

cmon....

infact im perfectly happy with 30p. not a SINGLE producer has yet to take issue with the 5DmkII because of a lack of 24p.

dont let the internet get in the way of reality. a great image is a great image...

Really? I can't find news of this anywhere.

It'd be nice, though. Especially since my 7D & Zoom H4n are 29.97.

i think i read somewhere that Bloom said he like the 7D more (in terms of intercutting with other cams) because it shot at 29.97 opposed to the 5D that shoots at 30.

Ok so there has been a tornado of responses to 24/25p. Big deal.

NOW, how about:

1) The bloody awful aliasing
2) The rolling shutter
3) The crummy H.264 codec
