Canon Confirms 24p And 25P For 5D via firmware update!!!

Sorry, to clarify though it WAS NOT JUST CANON REPS that gave out this information. I know for a fact the "no 24p firmware because of hardware" didn't come from a Canon rep on my end.

So nobody spread false information, we were relaying exactly what we were told and if someone decides to change their mind, that's a different story.

Now who told ya that 24P was coming to the 5DII. I believe that was me. Who's your friend? who's your pal? :-)

The writing was on the wall. sometimes we need to stand back far enough to be able to read what it says. :-)

Canon learned from the RED camp and is really entering into the age of direct feedback and costumer support.

Yes, all hail RED. The company that changed everything. Nobody knew anything before RED! The company with one camera and years of renders and specs on paper that change like the wind!!

Excuse me, I just threw up in my mouth...

This is awesome news from Canon. You know, the company that actually IS changing the game by releasing cameras with features at price points that it seemed like we'd never see.

Yes, but Canon still sucks and is ripping off their customers with cameras that will never compare to Scarlet when it's released in 2015. ..... :-)

Well i'll be taking all future sources with a grain of salt. If it's not coming from an engineer working R&D in Japan, i'm gonna hit it with the 5th grade lip twist....i ain't buyin' it. Anywho I can't wait and i'm glad i did not jump on the 7d bandwagon not that it is not a great piece of kit.

A confirmation that Canon reps don't know any more than we do. People keep spreading misinformation, falsifying data, making wild assumptions, blaming the market and hardware limitations as though they know the facts. The only undeniable fact is proven once again that nobody really knows anything.

I agree. In the future I won't be so easily swayed by the people who claim to have inside sources and be "in the know".

It's not the first time in DVXuser history or the Internet that things have changed. It won't be the last. Jan Critterdan of PANASONIC has represented both sides of the fence for years. She constantly said NO CMOS IN PANASONIC CAMERAS.

Then the HPX300 arrives. Is she suddenly of no use to this forum because someone changed their mind? No one can predict how someone may change their mind, but Barry cites a very credible source who is now wrong several months later; it's fine.

Not even sure why people are getting sand in their cracks about it.

24p in 2010 means the MKii still does not have 24p. Why own one when you can own them all? =D I still have my MKii and now two 7Ds, problem solved.

Wow what's with the sore winners? WTF! 24p could have gone either way, this really seems like a late descision that was pretty much a CHANGE in direction, in a seemingly long stream of changes in direction.

Everybody can't ball til they fall like Kholi! And there's no sand in my crack...only hair but that's another story. Look I can't speak to where Jan is in the Panny food chain, but it seems that Canon is a lot closer to the chest especially depending on what continent you live on and since they have never provided a "Jan", I don't know why we put so much stock in all the rumors anyway.

I'm just sayin' no one knew the direction, that was evident during manual control debacle.

You forgot the HMC40. Also the "100" and the current "300" consumer series. I am pretty sure that the 160 and the 180 will have a CMOS sensor too.

Aye, I can appreciate a 7D owners frustration. In fact, I was nearly one of them and would be if it weren't for food poisoning!

Last week I was due to go check out a 7D in the flesh, play with it, see if I love it, and if so buy it. But I got struck down with food poisoning and only ended up going out to the store Friday afternoon before meeting with friends for post-work fun, meaning I didn't buy it there and then as the store didn't price match the cheaper internet prices.

Knowing I had the weekend, I was planning on going for it on Sunday, which is when I saw news of the Sony announcement. I held off and Canon delivered some good news instead, hurrah!

It means, right now, I'm leaning towards the 5D. The UK prices are only £300 difference and it produces such lovely footage, I feel 25P will only improve it. Whilst the 7D also looks awesome, I feel it's worth £300 for full frame.

That being said, I don't feel anyone should get pissed with Canon for changing their minds. Changing their minds is a GOOD THING.

Would you rather have a company that sticks firmly to their guns, never changes their mind, never listens to people.

Or would you have a company who sees there's demand for tweaks to their products and does something about it and gives you those tweaks.

If 'changing their mind' means we, the consumer, the user, the filmmakers, get more and more then I'm happy for them to change their mind all day long!

The D90 and 5D Mk ii have been out about the same time and in that time Canon has improved their product to a massive degree and Nikon haven't. That's a good thing imo.

Thank you. That's pretty much it. Things changed and that's all it is to it. Why gripe about how people were wrong instead of being glad about it???

And everyone, including Stu Maschwitz-- who was "wrong"-- will continue to give out information that they get from "bogus" inside sources, because regardless of how it turns out, it's still information.

IN the manual control debate, the same sources that said no 24p said YES there WILL be manual controls. I even called the date out for a few people and, down to the exacts, it happened. So it's evident that there was just some mind changing.

There are a few of us that really do speak to more than just Canon Reps, honestly. Things just changed for the better. Good deal for everyone.

No more visuals about hair in your crack, though. That mental image's stickin' far too long, man.

Well, I was referring to the CMOS debate that we had going in the HPX170 forum for a while. IT was just as long-winded as this whole 24p on the Mkii two thing is/was. Repeatedly we were sourced that Panasonic had no immediate plans to go CMOS, then like a few weeks later a CMOS panasonic cameras start showing up in Prosumer offerings.

Corporations are run by people, people change their minds. S'all.

But right, HMC40 is definitely a CMOS camera and a pretty good one for the price.
