Wny do you think they dropped the prices? Are the 8K versions of these cameras finally being released after almost 6 years of speculation? The C500 Mii is insane at that price. Really tempted.

How clunky is the c500 AF versus an r7?

Really I like the C cameras.. but the (good) state of the $1500 10bit 422 mirrorless is a bit embarrasing for them.

If they had brain they'd skip 8k and get 480fps

I forsee rf mount 8k coming soon.

Honestly, you're not going to use AF 99% of the time for cinema work. These are cinema cameras.

I'ld rather have 8K. As I mentioned, there have been rumors of an 8K C500/300 since 2017 now. I hope the price drop in in indicaiton that it's finally coming, although the curren C500 at $11k is really tempting.

They are corporate cameras. Ive only seen alexa and red on set.

Anyone not interested in af get a v1 Alexa. For $5k simples.

clearly canons $10 k cam need better af that the $1500 one

the current c cams are a bit embarrasing

I know autofocus is the latest craze, but NO professional film/TV production is going to use AF (practically all settings are done manually) with the exception of gimbal/drone work. 99% of focus is done manually, so this is a non issue imo. AF is nice to have, but it is the exception, not the rule.

Maybe someone else can chime in as to whether this price drop is an indication of an 8K update: Canon C500 Price Has Dropped to $10,000. Is An 8K Mark II Camera Coming? (nofilmschool.com)
This article is from 2016, and here we are in 2023 still waiting for this.

C500 mii is listed as discontinued on B&H: Canon C500 Mark II 5.9K Full-Frame Camera 3794C007 C500 Mark 2 B&H (bhphotovideo.com)

Thank you foryour information on how TV is made. Mostt useful. I hd no idea.

If you really feel you can resolve 4k on a 720 screen in the sun well .. good luck to you.

480p SD 2/3 f8 is one thing, getting the correct eyebrow sharp on 4+k FF35 is another.

But if AF doesnt matter.. then an alexa or a black magic F55 EVA1 s35 varicam, the list is long .. or my tiny zcam make nice files.

The only reason to want an upgrade to anything you can buy today is to get
-better AF
-higher HFR
-other things that wont happen like super long preroll, built in sat truck

It's clunky compared to R7, R5 etc, but it still allows you to get shots that are impossible in manual focus.

A lot of speculation. There was nothing shown at the NAB. Cinegear is slated for June but that depends on the target audience for the new cameras. It's not likely to be for the high end professional production, which means it might come out toward the end of the summer.

Then again, R5C is being discounted too, so maybe there's a new announcement soon.

The Canon C500 Mark II and C300 Mark III cameras are not going away anytime soon.

The recent price drops are in line with Canon historical price reductions of previous Cinema EOS cameras at this stage of the product life.

Even if Canon makes an announcement, Cinema EOS products have taken 3-6 months to ship after the announcement. There's nothing around the corner.

I used to think no pro shooter would ever use Auto Focus. I was very wrong.

The discontinued C500 Mark II on B&H was an old sku that had the Sandisk 512GB card bundled with the C500 Mark II. Canon changed the C500 Mark II part numbers when they stopped including the Sandisk card in the box.

When the part number change happened, Canon started offering the C500 Mark II on the 48 month 0% $1 Lease Financing Promo.

Well, I guess I'll be getting a C500 mii then.

So you would be OK buying a C500 now Terry? I'd rather not get an R5C and find it curious that Canon would be an 8K sensor into that form factor before one of their cine cameras.
