Terry, thanks for the delivery updates. Two questions please; are the EF mounts standard or collar lock, like C500, and have you delivered any PL-mount versions yet?

They have the standard EF mount as pictured below.

Most of my rental customers are buying EF due to the uncertainty about the ETAs for the C300 Mark II with the PL Mount.

Canon Cinema EOS Service will offer an EF to PL Mount swap for a fee soon.

This process will be similar to the service offered by Canon for changing the mounts on the Canon Cinema Zooms and Cine-Servo lenses.

Once the camera goes through service, Canon returns the camera with the PL Mount installed and the spare EF Mount parts.

From that point, you should be able to perform the mount swaps yourself.

Got it. Thank you. Pity the C500 collar lock EF mount didn't migrate to the C300 II. I heard rental houses were going to be able to do mount swaps, but then Canon was backing off of that plan. In my opinion, the EF collar lock offers the rigidity of a native PL-mount with the advantage of full EF lens communication with the body.

I'm not sure I totally understand your post. Did Canon actually drop the option to convert to EF Lock entirely? Not offering the C300mk2 with EF Lock directly is already a very questionable decision!

I don't know. Was hoping Terry could shed some light. Having used the EF collar lock on C500's, I would never want to go back to standard EF mount, especially if paying $16K for a Mk 2 and then sending it to Canon to upgrade for a fee(which can't be cheap). When using larger, heavier Cine lenses with EF mounts and considering the torque of a follow focus or zoom and focus motors, the collar lock makes a lot of sense.

I've used the C500 with EF Lock too, and it's dramatically much easier to mount a Cine Servo lens on this mount. It's just like we've mounted lenses on PL and B4 mounts for years. Easy! No need to pull the entire camera rig apart every time a lens goes on and off. Basically using a Cine Servo lens on a EF Twist On mount can be described in one word: FORGETABOUTIT!

Canon C300 Mark II Locking EF or PL Service Upgrade Options

Canon C300 Mark II Locking EF or PL Service Upgrade Options

The C300 Mark II will be upgradable from the standard EF Mount to the Locking EF or PL mounts via Canon Cinema EOS Service Centers soon.

I anticipate that Canon will make an announcement about the details and cost in the near future.

Service turn around time in the USA was typically one week or less when overnight shipping was used on EF/PL Mount swaps for Canon Cinema Zooms.

Below is what Canon stated in the C300 Mark II press release:

The EOS C300 Mark II camera is equipped with either a standard EF or PL lens mount, but can be modified at a later point in time for a fee by authorized Canon Cinema EOS service centers for users who prefer either locking EF mount or PL mount.

Canon C300 Mark II Firmware Available to Address Skipped Slow Motion Issue

http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/profe...s_cameras/eos_c300_mark_ii#DriversAndSoftware

Firmware Version 1.0.1.1.00 incorporates the following correction:1. Fixes a phenomenon in which there are skipped frames in footage recorded in slow motion. Affected frame rates are:4K recording at 24.00P and 23.98P2K/HD recording at 29.97P, 25.00P, 24.00P, and 23.98P

The version 1.0.1.1.00 firmware is for updating cameras with firmware version 1.0.0.1.00. If your camera's firmware is already version 1.0.1.1.00, it is not necessary to update the firmware. Once the camera is updated to the latest version, it cannot be restored to a previous version.

For further details, please refer to the latest version of the instruction manual for this product, which will be released at the same time as this firmware update.

Preparations for the Firmware Update:After the Firmware update has been performed, the camera's menu and custom picture settings will be reset. It is recommended that users save their menu and custom picture settings as settings data to an SD card, separate from the one that will be used to carry out the update, before starting update operations. This saved data can be loaded into the camera and the settings can be changed after the update has been completed. For further information on this, please refer to the section in the unit's Instruction Manual titled "Saving and Loading Camera Settings".

The downloaded folder contains the firmware (file name: VLB1.FIM / file size: 41,353,248 bytes), and instructions on the firmware update procedures (a PDF file in five languages: Japanese, English, French, Spanish and Simplified Chinese). Before starting the firmware update operations, please be sure to carefully confirm your understanding of these instructions.

The firmware (the downloaded file)

Q1: Please tell me about the changes made in Firmware Version 1.0.1.1.00.A1:1. This firmware addresses a phenomenon in which there may be skipped frames in footage recorded in slow motion in Slow & Fast Motion Recording Mode, a mode which can be used to create a slow motion or fast motion effect during playback.

Q2: How can I carry out a firmware update?A2:Please download the most recent firmware for this model from the Canon Web site and follow the procedure shown on the Web page to install it.

New SKB Case for Canon C300 Mark II and C100 Mark II

New SKB Case for Canon C300 Mark II and C100 Mark II

We received a fresh batch of SKB Cases that work with the Canon C300 Mark II.

Cost is $199.99.

You do have to pull the top handle off, but the case is airline overhead bin rated.

SKB is using the same part number for the new case that was used for the old version of the case.

If you buy from another dealer for the C300 Mark II, make sure that they are shipping you the new version case that works with the Canon C300 Mark II.

Is the PL to EF mount swap field serviceable? It looked like Euro Cannon had a user installed version- or was I too bleary eyed when I thought I read that?

Canon USA C300 Mark II EF & PL Mount Conversion Program Announced

Canon USA C300 Mark II EF & PL Mount Conversion Program Announced

Canon USA announced pricing below to switch between EF and EF-Cinema Lock and PL mounts below.

Canon USA will charge $500 to switch between mounts after the initial conversion.

When the mount change service is performed by a Canon USA service center, the one year warranty is unaffected.

Once you have the mount conversion performed at Canon, you can have your own technician perform the mount swap.

Thank you Terry. I saw that Koerner Camera received two PL versions, so was surprised nobody, Canon or dealers had announced a delivery date. But, as always, you came through with timely info. Thank you.
