C300: Canon C300 AF Now $4999 ($6999 - $2000 IR) Texas Media Systems

C300 was announced in November, 2011 (w/out the DPAF then) at $16,000. Its product cycle is nearing its end but it's been a real warhorse.

Yep. And I don't know any guys personally that bought an original 300 that bought a mkII. I can only think of one friend here in-town with a mkII and he didn't buy an original.

Canon just announced a new $2000 Instant Rebate on the original C300 DAF camera from April 1 - June 30, 2017.

Been looking to get two bodies & been expecting Canon to clear out old inventory before NAB. Very enticing!

Need to wait though, leaving for Thailand & just bought a Leica.

Original C300 owner chiming in. LOVE the camera since January 2012 - it has been a vital tool for feeding my family. Regarding the comment about original MK1 owners not buying a MK II: I recently bought one - currently overseas and can't wait to get home - unbox it and start shooting.

Looks like we will be shooting and delivering HD for another few years. For some of the corporate projects where I do only shooting, I found that they crop to a tight shot to get a second angle. So it would be a good investment buying another C300.

My C300 is still going strong. And it can fairly-well match ARRI Alexa/Amira and function as a b-cam on some (But not all) doc/corp stuff). Runs solo on some news/verite stuff. And considering how much of my work ends up online, it's resolution is still fine. We don't use it for everything (using a couple REDs this week), but it's still earning its keep.

I wonder who will buy these new discounted C300s. My guess (and it's only a guess) is people who already own (or have frequently rented) a C300...but heck, there's plenty of us. Terry, if you have an opinion on that (especially after a month or so of sales at this nice price), I'd love to hear it.

IMO, for a lot of run&gun, corporate, low/no budget independents, and weddings, it can still do the job, provided that the rate is appropriate. For places, where one has time to set up and light the scene, something like GH5 would probably do a better job for a lot less.

PS. And this is only going into the NAB, where something or other will be announced.

Except color. The ease of use that the C300 offers is pretty amazing. No slow motion at 1080 is a bummer.

Yeah, I make most of my $ from using the GH4, but I recently shot something on the c300 and all during post I was consistently much more happy with how the footage graded and how easily I was able to isolate great skin tones.

I've gotten so much mileage out of my GH4 that it would be crazy to complain, and I have a GH5 arriving today from Adorama. Having said that, it took just a few minutes with my c300 footage to convince me that it's just a way more flattering look as soon as there are people in the frame. Of course, the Zeiss CP.2's didn't hurt none either. ; )
