C100: Canon C100 Mark II Announced 60P, New VF, & New OLED Panel Texas Media Systems

Yes the C100 mk I and C300 have the same image processing pipeline, it' the new C100 mk II that has changed, and my friend at Canon swears by the "significant improvement in detail, aliasing threshold, colour fidelity and lowlight performance" compared to both the C100 and C300. It might be all BS though, but I do trust the guy's experience and knowledge as a filmmaker.

Thank you for the reports from Photo Expo guys. I hope actual test footage would start appearing now since the camera has been first shown in PE.

The mki already has very little moire or aliasing. Also, the amount of detail is already staggering. I do not see how they could squeeze any more into it as it already holds up well against other 4k captures. I'm guessing they were probably able to squeeze a bit more performance out of the noise / low light / sensor readout times. We won't fully know until its released but I do doubt the "significant improvement" claims. Anything significant would likely require a new sensor/processor/body.

If they do somehow make noticeable gains, high fives all around and party on Canon! I will likely be owning a mk ii either way :)

The camera is great.
But for Canon to release in 2015 a camera body (lens-less) for knapp €6k without a broadcast codec is a disgrace.
You have a add €1k for a ninja or similar, with all the issues such add-on brings: disconnection risks plus bulk, weight etc, which means you then need a shoulder rig and an external EVF. Thus €6k price tag now turns into €9k. And even then, no broadcast 60p as neither Atomos nor 7Qs do 60p thru HDMI.

Independent/Broadcast folks I've spoken to have already discarded this one, which is a shame as c100/300 colour was lovely out of the box, and are looking forward to the FS7 for a cheap all around broadcast camera.

Poor Chuck, he's having to defend Canon's odd market segmentation with underfeatured products over and over, for the past couple of years. Must be terrible be in such a position.

On the side, as close to the lens as possible yet still behind it, is the best place to put the screen.

Take any of the prosumer handicams from bygone years, remove the lens --- that's your body.

Why must manufacturers reinvent the wheel --- badly --- with the C300, FS700, AF100, all the Blackmagic cameras?

This is one of things that I vastly prefer about the C300 - the flexibility of where the screen can be placed.

Agreed, the c300's lcd was an absolute pleasure to shoot with in so many scenarios, very versatile. Looking at the mk ii I think it will be a welcomed upgrade with the way it articulates

I saw this link posted over on NFS, it is in Japanese and French I believe, but as the poster pointed out the good footage starts at 9:09 http://youtu.be/SJ7wRXH1omI?t=9m9s

Great find! Heres another

Looks like a series of welcomed upgrades for an entry level option into the cinema line. Now lets see a dslr worthy of the cinema badge without an inflated price tag :)

idk it looks too much like the same old c100 to me no reason for me to move on.

If you can live with out 50/60p and the new LCD/EVF theres no reason to upgrade - the image produced will be very similar.

It seems like now the only advantage of the C300 over C100 mkII is now just the codec. I understand those that may not like the screen placement as well with the C100 mkII. But honestly as a C300 owner that shoots without a shoulder rig, I think I'd prefer to shoot with the new C100 since it addresses the VF/EVF deficiencies of the original C100. I'd have to decide how much I care about the codec. Probably enough to keep the C300, but not enough that if I was buying now I'd choose the C300 over the C100 mkII. Of course, either way I'm going to wait for the C300 mkII.

I really want to stick with the Canon EOS-C lineup but I'm a little worried that the C300 Mk2 won't be enough of an upgrade to justify it's purchase over say, an FS7.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but is the mk ii the first camera capable of shooting 60fps from a sampled 4k sensor with no debayering/line skipping internally?

The only other cameras I know of that do this are the Alexa, FS700(+O7Q) and the f5/f55 but they require a different olpf to shoot hd/2k optimally.

I've got big hopes for C300 II (C400). For me it's to interesting before knowing what Canon will bring to jump on FS7 train.

Hope you are right! I had big hopes for the 7D2 and C100 Mk2 as well though. I was expecting a little more.

Speaking of C100 MK II updates..... My son runs to my room last night, to show my wife and I an iPhone 6 video of him doing Wing Chun (kung fu) punching moves. First at regular speed, than SLOW MO (yes, slow mo on the iPhone 6)!
