Canon announces 3 fantastic new camcorders today: Vixia HG G30, XA20, and XA25

B&H Photo is quoting XA20 at $2,199, and available June 15th. HF G30 is being quoted at the full list price of $1,699, available June 30th.

The Panasonic AG-AC90 is now reduced down to only $1,739 at B&H Photo, making it a fantastic buy.

Adorama is selling the AG-AC90 for $1,999, but it including the full Sony Vegas 12 Suite with it.

Vegas 12 OEM, not the suite. Would have been a pretty awesome deal if it was the suite.

Check the description of the bundle on the Adorama webpage. It describes the software as being a suite, including Audio Editing, as well as DVD and Blu-Ray authoring tools, besides the Vegas 12 editor.

"The Sony Vegas Pro 12 collection provides an efficient, intuitive 64-bit native environment for professional audio and video production, as well as DVD and Blu-ray Disc authoring. This comprehensive suite offers a robust, forward-thinking approach to the art of content creation and audio-visual production."

You could perhaps call it a poor description on their part since Sony has another product called the Vegas Pro Suite which includes Soundforge, Hitfilm, a number of other extras and retails for $999, not $499. This is the definitely the Vegas OEM they are including. See product number and photo. Retail version of the product they are including here can be had for $400 many places and probably includes some content that this lacks.

Well, but it is also not the Vegas 12 Edit, either. Some companies have bundled just the Vegas Editor with their products. This bundle is giving a person a complete set of tools.

First time poster here. I've been following threads like this. As a HF G10 user looking to step up getting excited about owning an XA20. Yep, the camera dos that for me.

An interesting nugget I found. I live in Japan, and the XA20 will be sold in a different way. The handle will be an extra purchase, rather than combined in th box. Annoyed me at first, but discovered that the camera will be 170,000 yen (about $1700) with the handle being ¥40,000 (about $400), so price is about the same when added up.

You can see the handle being shown as an accessory on Canon's Japanese page here:

What about ND filter on the XA 20/25?. I have been spoiled by my Sony EX-1R and EX-3 with the ND filter built in just behind the lens and easy to get to. I have pre ordered the XA 20 from B&H and will call them tomorrow to find out. It appears that on a bright sunny day I will need a ND filter to get the iris down to around F4-5.6. However, I am not sure where the "sweet spot" will be on the 20 X lens. The largest lens I have used has been an 18x on a Sony DSR 500. That was some time ago. The sweet spot on the EX cameras seems to be right at f4- f5.6 with shtter speed set at 60 and the ND 1 or 2 on bright sunny day. The reason for me switching to the small Canon is that I keep getting run out of places with the Ex-1R/Ex-3 because of the "professional look". I have been looking for a smaller camera that will not be as obtrusive as the larger cameras and still give ma a good image. I hope the small Canon will be just what I need.

Thanks for all the info on this thread.

Why do you not like Sony PJ780?

Lets hope the Slashcam low light image results can be improved because the HF-G30 looks pretty dark compared to other cameras like the AC-90. Showstopper for me.

I do not know what to make of the comparison video. Thanks for posting. The XA-20 had some different color going on as well as some of the shots looked out of focus (at least I can hope!) Tough to compare on YouTube. I am sure there will be more comparisons.

Any word when the release date is for the G30? I heard the end of June, but can't confirm it.
I am surprised there isn't many demo or promo videos on these cameras.

I have a vixia fs100, I would think the video quality would be much better on the new G30. Hopefully it will be up to par with my HMC150 and can use them together.
