Canon announces 3 fantastic new camcorders today: Vixia HG G30, XA20, and XA25

This will have to remain to be seen until reviews can be made between the two. Image quality, light sensitivty, noise reduction are best not gleaned from spec sheets.

You could not have said that better. That is exactly what I advise people about buying new products. You really cannot judge something just based on its specs. Best to let others be the guinea pigs. Wait for in-depth reviews and sample footage. Even wait a month, and see how other users react to it.

I need an info please: I take interest about image quality only. In your opinion does Vixia HG20 give the same image quality than Vixia HG30 (for defualt that is withouth manipultion to modify the image)?
Thanks

As Bassman and I noted over 3 weeks earlier in this thread, this is all impossible to determine at this time.

All we know at this point is that the G30 has newer specs: It has a newer and larger sensor, a newer improved version of the Canon DIG!C film processor, and a newer lens. And it also supports a higher quality format: AVCHD 2.0 1080/60ps at 28Mbps.

IN THEORY, all of those things SHOULD combine to produce an improvement in quality. But will the difference really be noticeable? And if there is a difference, will it be worth the additional $600 price of the G30?

We will have to wait and see what actual footage looks like, before we can answer any of these questions.

.

Well, they all use the same battery recharger. To me, that means that they must be compatible, as they have the same form factor and connections.

.

Thats reassuring, plus the new lens is a must for me but having only bought my XA10 in January i may have to wait a while.

Can you tell me if the removable handle (for various additional controls) is included in the price or is it or is an option to pay separately?
Thanks

They are included with the XA20/25 and will not work with the G30 where you have to use an external XLR mixer and pass the signal into the 3.5mm audio input. However, you get PCM audio recording on the two XA cameras and only Dolby with the G30. I can hear the difference, so for pro work you do need an XA unless you will be using an external audio recorder. teh image quality should be identical.

I'm rather inexperienced when it comes to video. I've been shooting with a Panasonic TM900 for the past year, and like many readers here, I've been eyeing the Canon G30. My major complaints with the Panny are the mediocre wide angle and low light capability, and the finicky white balance and focus. Also, it doesn't offer touch focus in manual mode. At the time I purchased it though, it was only $700, and offered 60p, something Canon didn't have, yet the G10 was selling for at least $400 more as best as I can recall. The advantages of the G30 are touch focus in manual, excellent wide angle and low light ability. It also boasts a beautiful OLED touch screen and the possibility of shooting native 24fps. The one thing I'm concerned about is exposure determination - I'm used to judging exposure using both the zebra stripes and histogram, but the Canon has no histogram. Is it possible to rely solely on zebra stripes, or will I need to purchase a grey card and exposure meter?

I'm sorry but I don't understand fine. Is there a removable handle included in the price on HF G30? I see many pictures with it on G30. I don't mean if the options work or don't work, I'd like to know only if the removable handle included in the price. THANKS

no, and they would not work if they were included.

Our team members have preordered several Canon cameras in the past and they never arrived more than one week after the announced delivery date, suggesting they shipped from the warehouse by the target date.

Well, I've seen Canon mention that it will be available in the UK and USA in June. Regarding availability in other countries, I think that one needs to check further.

I am going to be a Guinea pig and pre-order a Canon G30. I hope I don't get skunked, I am counting on Canon to make the G30 a winner of a camera. I have liked there other cameras like the Vixia brand. I need a few B cameras for my HMC150 camera. Keep you all informed when I get one and do some test footage.

For semi-professional cameras, the XA20 & XA25 (as well as the HF G30) appear to have next to no function buttons on the body at all - another reason I'm leaning toward the Panny AG AC90.

There is a manual / auto focus button on the screen door[not on the ccd]manual focus is easy with the lens ring, once on manual aperture and shutter are easily controlled by the on body ring, the unbeatable colour fidelity of these cams certainly make up for the small shortcomings regarding on cam function, which is not that bad.
