Alright, heres my attempt at slow motion and 60p, 24p. This is also my first project with the Tokina 11-16mm.

To make it even harder decided to shoot in the park & a bunch of birds, ha! I know, I know....not 'real' wild life but it's the best I could do inside the city :D

But i'm starting to figure out how the Canon works and how to move quickly between settings to get the best images and settings. Some more info on vimeo

Check out the video and let me know what you guys think...thanks!

Was just thinking about it and If i had a little bean bag to throw under the camera I would have gotten my shots quicker and faster (also had to do some slight balancing in post) any one have experience using bean bags for quick shots?

Yeah grab a beanbag and a little 2 axis hotshoe mounted level, you'll definitely save some time.

The digital level in the 7D (hit the Info button twice) also works great for leveling on odd surfaces or tripods that don't have a good level.

Bean bag I bought at Toys r Us - lazy susan at Home Depot...total $ 16

this is the same lazy susan bearing
screw it to a small 8x8 inch board, add the beanbag...go to go! you can even screw the bag down to the board if you like so it's a 1 piece, but that makes it harder to replace the bag when it/if it gets damaged...
...or you could use a sand bag for more weight - which of course will add more control to the pan.

It works like a charm though...pans are pretty darn smooth..I'll shoot something after work tomorrow and post it up so you can see it better

This is a great idea - please post some pics once it's up and running

I really love this feature; but it's funny because I find that I don't really need it. My eye gets me close enough to balance (along with the tripod bubble) Best part is showing the feature off to my friends, they think it's like a cockpit control :D

Looks great! Loved the canopy shot. Just wondering: how'd you get the 1st squirrel shot and what got 'bumped'?

By Canopy do you mean the tree shot around ~33 secs? Yes thats the 2 legs. With that shot I extended the legs ALL THE WAY. I probably had movement of roughly 6 to 7 ft!

Ahhh, the bump with the squirrel. Nothing hit the camera but great eyes - you are noticing the difference between using el cheapo tripod vs. the Manfrotto. I had no friction/resistances in the head so it was very hard to control. This is why only attempt to use two legs (at risk of your sanity) with a decent tripod, otherwise the results aren't worth it.
