Canon 7D/T2i AGC Bypass Trick OMG duh!

great fix, but your'e limited to mono recording. Good workaround until a firmware update.

I think the reason Canon won't update the firmware to add things like AGC kill, audio levels, and zebra stripes- is that they fear it will take sales away from their pro level video products like the AH1. WHen I go to nab, I will ask them this :)

watch out for audio bleeding from one channel to the other

c'mon did you really think it was that easy?

What about this very high frequency tone that you cant hear and you can roll off in post with eq ?Will this work ?

I was gonna post that this only fixes the AGC problem NOT the low bitrate (I was told the bitrate was low) but after looking at the tech sheet the audio is actually 48 16 bit.
Other than levels, this might not be a bad workaround

decent if you're working with one microphone, i guess. can't picture myself going to buy a shuffle to play that into the camera.. I'll stick with the H4N in the meantime. Syncing really is not that big of a hassle.

Yep, I know what you mean, I've got a Marantz 660 external recorder so I didn't really even care about the sound other than clap board recording, but when you're by yourself..........This ain't all that bad a workaround.
I'd really like the audio and video together, if at all possible.

They added AGC to the 5d2, so I don't think they're scared. Right now most people buying canon are going to buy one of these cameras instead of the a1, unless they really need to deliver on tape or are shooting eng style stuff.

Even then so many used A1s on the market these days super cheap.

I've tested this pretty extensively with the T2i (using a range of frequencies from my iphone, from 20Hz to 20Khz) and never got it to work... The problem might lie in the fact that either A) I don't know how to properly extract a single mono channel from a stereo channel (basically, I'm a doofus); or B) I'm using a stereo to stereo y-adapter. Since it only costs $10, I'm going to pick up a L+R MONO to stereo y-adapter and figure out if I really am a doofus or not. I'll report back with what I find.

BTW, I'm doing this with a VideoMic and the iphone apps called FreqGen and White Noise. Also, IMHO, dual system sound is almost always the better choice when you have the resources, but for run'n'gun, this makes a very portable set-up.

I'm shooting all the interviews at NAB with this, so I'll walk to canon's booth with this whole contraption. let them see what I have to do
