Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L USM vs. Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 Di LD (IF) Macro

Played with both at a store so I don't have a super hands on review of each but from the half hour i played with them I noticed a couple of things.
-Tamron is a very solid lens/sharp.
-Tamron focus stops when it hits infinity or close up versus the canon will keep turning even after infinity which is good if you're filming, no bumps. Canon lens also has a much much longer focus throw.
-Tamron focus rings slides up or down to enable AF or MF canon is full time MF where it will AF but you can still touch the focus ring without straining the motor or switching over to MF first.
-Canon's focus is absolutely lightening fast. It feels like before you can even think of pressing the shutter halfway it's already focused which is absolutely awesome so pictures especially if it's a one time deal like a wedding. The tamron will lag a little in comparison and the focus motor is a bit louder.
-Obviously the price of the tamron is incredible and it certainly is an awesome lens, but it does have it's downfalls in comparison to the canon.

It's up to you if you feel the canon is worth the extra money. To me, in terms of shooting video, the IS is absolutely essential to shooting at this focal length.

Hope this helps a little bit

That's a pretty good hands on, thanks.
Although the Tamron is most likely as sharp at the extreme ends it does have some trouble in the middle range at around 135mm. The Canon is probably the way to go in the long run.
