Canon 17-55 2.8 Backfocus issue?

So I finally gave the lens a try, but it doesn´t seem to hold focus, focusing the traditional way (zooming in, manually focusing, zooming out again).
Is that a photo zoom lens thing (which I doubt..) or should it behave like a video zoom lens too and hold focus when changing focal length...?
Is this a known issue that can be fixed? Is it a matter of good/bad batches?

Any help appreciated still have some time to send it back to Amazon...

Thanks!

To my understanding photo lenses do not hold focus like standard video camera lenses. The proper way to focus is press the +Magnify on your camera ( 5x,10x) and focus your shot. These photo lenses are not meant for zooming while shooting to hold focus.

Yes, the other posts are correct. The 17-55 is not parafocal. You should be able to shoot ENG style (sort of) with a zfinder and anti-fog disk. IMHO it is still no replacement for an ENG with a wide zoom like the 12x 4.5 or 10x 5.4. I find 17mm on APS-C not really wide enough for that style of hand held work (which is why I don't like the 17x7.6 kit lens that comes with the HPX 500 for hand held... It has a similar FOV @7.6 to APS-C at 17-18). I always rent a WA for run and gun.
