C300: Canon 17-120mm servo Cine Zoom lens, hands on feedback

[mitch@provideo]

Here is a nice, concise, review of the Canon 17-120mm servo cine zoom. The reviewer uses it on a Sony F5 but this lens would also work great on a C300 or a C500, with a little rigging. The lens is available in both EF and PL mounts. I recently got a chance to use this lens myself and found it extremely enjoyable to operate.

Used it last week on two shoots on my C300. Really a great lens. Covers the wide and telephoto adequately. On a music video shoot I was using pro-mist filtration to take the sharpness out of the image. The second shoot was more of a broadcast style setup where nixed the filtration and pulled my own focus.

I've used the 19-90mm cabrio and the canon mini cine zooms all are nice, but this lens, especially with that macro feature, is pretty amazing.
