Cannibal Holocaust

I've only seen the trailer. It's some pretty disgusting stuff.

If anyone actually enjoys that movie then they must have some serious problems.

lol, I've seen it twice, it isn't THAT bad, I mean, sure if you work for peta or something, other than that its not something any one of us wouldn't do if we were stuck in the jungle without food (What the documentary filmmakers did).

CANNIBAL... is more complex and politically responsible, but for the money, I prefer Deodato's earlier JUNGLE HOLOCAUST. It's very racist and exploitive, but that all just contributes to the overwhelming unease you feel watching it. And for some reason, the idea that foreign-cultures-are-scary seems more honest and innocent (even when obviously completely unjustified) than the later film's apologetic, foreign-cultures-are-scary-but we're-far-worse, angle, which strikes me more as wanting your (human meat) cake and eating it too. However, both are important films, interesting artifacts of a different artistic landscape, and necessary viewing for anyone who considers themselves a film buff (and not just for those wanting to see where the structure for BLAIR WITCH came from).

I've seen it but I'm just a bigger fan of CANNIBAL FEROX by Umderto Lenzi, if you're into the 70's Italian movies Lenzi is much more interesing...

Cannibal Ferox has basically the same themes but I think it is subtler. But perhaps that's just my perception.

I started watching it with a friend, but I couldn't stay awake. It was one of the most boring movies I've ever seen.

There's a good podcast show Mondo Movie in the UK and they reviewed it a few months ago. The "needed food for survival" excuse was exposed as just b.s. And there must be an awful lot of peta employees out there given the fact that they set the dvd so you can watch a version without the animal torture.

Cannibal Holocaust is a very slow movie but I enjoyed it, it's pretty brutal. I have a Cannibal Holocaust shirt :D

lol..I could tell you liked that movie by just looking at your avatar :)

I saw it, but all I remember is a turtle getting chopped to shreds and a rape (punishment?) scene with some jagged rock or something strange like that.

Saw it yesterday, didn't really like it. Thought it was charming and exploitative but it just seemed to in your face, which i assume was the point the of the movie, the violence in the movie is very tame for today though.

I havent seen this for years, but if I remember rightly dont they find and review footage from a documentary crew who went missing; and then send a new team in?

A bit of a blair witch precursor.

They are going to do a "remake" of this. Scheduled to be released next year. I wonder who are they gonna cast for the roles ?
