Cancun - Shot on Kinefinity Terra 6K

After selling my Epic Dragon, I finally got my Terra 6K about a month ago and took it to Cancun on my vacation to shoot some test footage. Overall, I'm really liking it so far. The only drawbacks for me that I've found are rolling shutter and the lack of Raw support (I do miss R3D) but shooting prores isn't too bad. The footage is very easy to handle, and the colors are really nice. Here's what I shot.

They shoot KineRAW so you can transcode to CinemaDNG via KineStation like the old cameras (if that's still possible)...it's not REDCODE that we all love, but the RAW support is there.

Yeah it is there, however it does add a significant amount of time to the workflow. ProRes is light and easy, and as long as I shoot it right, then the image will turn out about as good.

How do you like the camera vs the red dragon? I am thinking about upgrading my system. A7SII and 5D III RAW to either ursa mini 4.6k, a RED or the kinefinity terra. Especially IQ is important for me as it is mainly hobby for me. So a heavy workflow is not the worst thing for me. The terra is the smallest which has its advantages. But then again I would not want to trade that in for les IQ.

Def...ProRes is amazing.

So far, I would say that it's pretty comparable to my Epic dragon. Image quality is on par, rolling shutter is a bit worse. The terra has a nicer highlight rolloff, but isn't quite as good in low light. Really the best thing for me is the fact that it's so light. My epic dragon rig weighed in around 15-18 lbs and my Terra weighs in around 8lbs which is including the 3.5 lbs sigma 50-100 on it. Overall I really am enjoying it so far. As for which to get, I would say it depends on what your going to film and also which Red your going for. If your going for an MX series sensor, then I would go for a Terra. If your going for a Dragon sensor, then I think they're pretty comparable.

Also Andree, at the time I sold it to help me while I was going through chemo. After I finished though, I could have bought another one but ended up wanting to try something different. My main reasons were the weight, and being able to shoot prores when I needed a fast and light workflow. The image it gives off is very nice. It has a bit more of a film feel than the harder/sharper Red image. Thus far I'm liking what I'm getting from it.

So far I haven't had any issues at all, but I haven't had it long enough to make that call yet. I do feel comfortable with it though.

Sorry DvxHerb, this message slipped by me. It's hard to say what new buyers will experience since I had a preorder in since a little after NAB. But Kinefinity is saying currently that its about a 4 to 6 week wait once purchased.

i ve seen a few clip on youtube and noticed that all is ok with image (maybe a little softer then i got used to) as long as its outside with good lights, but as soon its in shadows i see crazy noise...

So i wonder if u could talk a little more about its low light sensitivity.

and what about its dynamic range?

The price is tempting especially as there is an offer with Global shatter.... and they have a dealer in eu now as well... i really consider buying it instead of know brands....

You should download and check carefully the native footage. Look at the clip where an ambulance light hit the actors faces. Not a nice artifact there, if I remember correctly. And it is shown by the manufacturer
