Any suggestions for a fast wide angle prime lens that works well with the GH4? Currently I have an older 24mm 2.8 Nikkor. Looking to get something either a little wider or maybe faster if possible.
I have a Samyang 12mm f/2, Olymus 17mm f/1.8 and now the Panasonic Leica 15mm f/1.7. Previously I used the Oly 17mm for almost all my stabilizer work. I bought the Samyang to get a wider field of view. I recently found Panasonic 15mm in the local classifieds for $280 and had to jump. I've only used it a few times, but it is a very very nice lens. Tack sharp wide open and a bit faster than the Samyang.
If you can only get one lens in that wide, wide-normal view (in 4K) I'd see if you can't find the 15mm. It's better than the Samyang a with the ripping deal I got about the same price
Here's the sample I did with my family at Christmas using the Samyang. If you are on a budget, this a great lens too.
If only Panasonic would make a 10.5mm f/1.7 they would have the perfect combo with the 15mm, 25mm and 42.5mm when filming in 4K !!!
In the mean time, the 12mm and 15mm great options for a m43 wide.
I have the 16mm t2.2 Rokinon Cine Lens Nikon version and love it. Nice and wide with a speed booster but very little (if any) barrel distortion. And you can practically stick your thumb on the lens and focus on it. You can pick it up for less than 300 bucks these days. Shopping hint (Rokinon, Samayang, and Bower are all the same exact version of this lens, just different branding).
B&H has it in stock and has been shipping for the past couple weeks, but I'm yet to find any hands-on reviews for it. I plan on getting it, but I'm waiting on some reviews and quality checks before I take the plunge.
There are rumors of a new Leica 12mm lens coming from Panasonic. Might be worth waiting for to see how good it is and if it in fact is actually happening. I would assume its going to be at least f2.0 since Olympus already has a 12mm at f2.0. Would be great if it was faster. I think we will find out soon if it is a real thing or just a rumor.
