See Shane Hurlbut on the c500. He just finished shooting "Fathers and Daughters" (with Russell Crowe) on the c500 as his main camera. He finds that shooting in 2k 10bit makes the c500 a good alternative "A" camera to the Alexa. Better in many ways because of its light weight and that it uses an outboard recorder which increases flexibility and safety. I did get the camera in the January deal and wished I had bought 2.
There is a lot of life in the C series Canons. I suspect that they have a master plan to bring their still camera shooters into the motion world and that is what is driving their decisions. Right now the best deal on the planet for somebody starting out or who wants to make money shooting is not the GH4- which I have and love- (but it ain't no 1d c which I have and love, love, love)- is the c100 with the 3 ef zooms for 10k. That puts you in the profession style of shooting ballpark, great lifetime quality glass, and paves the way to upgrading in the Canon world as they release newer products, They are not going to change their operating system and next NAB when they put the whack on ARRi, RED, PANNY and SONY you will be ready and experienced to step up your game into whatever they come up with.
