C100: Can I attach a C100 grip to a tripod handle?

Hello, all.

I know there are extension cables for the C100 grip (like THIS one) but those are meant more for putting the grip in a more comfortable position for a shoulder rig.

I'm curious if there's any way to securely attach the C100 grip to a tripod handle so I can use it in place of a LANC controller. Any ideas (other than use gaffe tape)?

Thanks!

The cable you show is part of most grip-relocator extension solutions. There is still the need for a mount and that is why ARRI HGA-1 and Wooden 213500 exist. Companion ARRI rosette style brackets come in a few different ID rod clamps. I have no idea what the OD is of whatever you are trying to attach to. "Any ideas (other than gaffe(r) tape)" means you are open to spending money? This is still a $350+ affair...

Yeah, all I would need is something that has the C100 grip thread on one end and a generic clamp on the other. Something like THIS but with a way of screwing the C100 grip onto it. There's certainly no need for $350 worth of gear.

Yes and no. The screw collar is proprietary so to speak. I am a machinist. If I were to charge for turning the piece on my lathe, I would have to guess it would take me two hours to fab the piece from stock and another one hr. to chuck it up and cut the threads and clean-off the lathe. Then that piece would have to mate to the clamp (which I would outsource) and that would take yet another hour to design and fab. My hourly rate for metal shop is $90 plus materials. $360 for labor for a one-off part, not including the billet.

Bear with me here...

Total is $351.40. And it just might work. Maybe.

^OK, I see all the parts. Sweet. Nice job!

Stupid Q, how did you delete your initial list? I don't see a delete option on my posts...

I am a hacker. If I were to charge for hacking DVXuser to delete your posts, I would have to guess it would take me two hours to break into the mainframe and another one hr. to rewire the network via the CPU of the RAM. Then that RAM would have to mate to the database (which I would outsource) and that would take yet another hour to hack and tosh. My hourly rate for hacking is $90 plus materials. $360 for labor for a one-off part, not including the RAM.

Or you could just click, "Edit Post," "Delete," select "Delete Message" bubble, type in a super important reason for deleting that someone is totally going to read and think about, and then click "Delete Post."

Well, sure. If you're making a one-off part, then certainly it's worth the amount you describe. I'm just surprised that, with all the thousands of C100/300 cameras out in the world, there doesn't seem to be a big demand for a mass-produced piece like this. But if it doesn't exist, it doesn't exist.

^?? It does exist, that's what Eric and I have been stating. If what you want is a $1-2.98 part, then you are correct. Thousands of cameras doesn't mean each camera owner is a buyer for that piece. $300 to fill a need and help get you through a paying job is worth it. You may want to ping your local fabricator to quote you something. Old-school machinists still charge less than $50/hr...

I spoke to a tenant a few doors down from us who does farm work for Northrop Grumman. He actually specializes in custom fab'ing for dirt track racers. I sketched-out something that would be representative of your handle (in other words, would be sized specifically and fasten with allen caps) and the collar turning to be dropped & clocked 90 deg. on the horizontal axis. Canon cable would feed through the collar. Very simple, 6061-T6, $100 for one. Didn't talk about multiple units though.

Well then, consider me very interested! In an ideal world, I would purchase two of these for my two C100s, but if it can be only one, I'd take it.

Let me know what info you'd need from me. And if you'd rather chat via email, mine is jaime (at) ajvmedia (dot) com.

Thanks so much for your help with this. I really appreciate it.

I talked to him last night. He is 6 weeks out from doing anything as a favor. My intention, when I originally approached him, was merely to get another price option and determine feasibility. At this point, I could say that any decent machine shop in a given area could also produce the same part.

I've been looking for this same solution for a while. Aside from the cost of the parts being an obstacle (especially in Canadian $$) the handle on my Sachtler head isn't 15mm (it's bigger - I don't have it readily available here to measure). I have one of those Bogen Super Clamps but it's a big & heavy. Is there a standard size for various brands? A smaller lighter solution would be preferrable. Another question is are the Arri rosettes the same as others or are there variations by brand?

I don't know how small you want to get but some Collins clamps are fairly compact (I use RRM). Rosettes vary so select carefully. ARRI and RED are not compat. for example but many brands fall under the ARRI "standard".
