Camera rumors for 2016?

Canon still leaves itself enough room to maneuver if XC15 is a substantial upgrade over XC10 and C100III/C200 is somewhere on the horizon. Right now, they may not be winning many new customers but many of the Canon stalwarts accept - albeit, begrudgingly - their lineup. Off rumored and still unofficial specs, it trails A7RII and A7SII already unless it has a 10-bit out to the external recorder and some form of a log. If not, they better start teasing C200 yesterday.

I don't think that is a fair assumption given that not a single person on this forum has seen any image from it. That said, you might be absolutely correct about this. Its just unknown right now. Specs are not everything....though they do inform a lot.

My take is....give it a chance. Canon will probably frustrate a lot of people, myself included.....but lets see where the cards fall after some video examples start popping up.

I do have to say, the 1DXII footage does not really do it for me for a 6K camera. The footage form that camera looks very video-ish to me.

I've been giving Canon chances for the past 3 years, haha...still love them, but we're very far apart these days.

Canon Rumors says that 5D MKIV will retail for $3,500 (with the wholesale about half that ... off an Indian site, it came out to $1,731 in dollars under the current exchange rate).

Also, the new Olympus OMD1 MKII will be announced after PhotoKina in late September. It will have a pixel shifting 48 MPX still res (no tripod required, unlike the MK1) and 4K.

PS. We sort of gloss over the fall US expo (after the IBC and PhotoKina in Europe) but PhotoPlus will be held as usual in New York, October, 20th-22nd, at the Javits Convention Center. Who knows, maybe C200 will show up there.

Europe pricing 3700 euro they say. It's crazy, I don't see anyone looking for video or hybrid dslr/mirrorless camera going this route instead of A7RII. Far to expensive!!

(tha a7R II is 3725eur in amazon.es and 4000eur in amazon.fr) (and I'd rather take that instead of what the 5D4 is looking like in my mind)

I'm getting to the point again where I don't feel like one camera has to be everything. Like the way it used to be prior to the HDSLR revolution. My Canon 60D is still a great stills camera and at the moment also a passable video camera. In fact I just shot a well paid gig with it last week that had the clients tearing up because of how much they liked it. But it's the still capability of my Canon that will hold up much longer and it's really all I ever need for my photography. So I'll probably hold onto it for that reason alone. Plus its value has gone down enough that it's not really worth it for me to sell it. Which means I remain a Canon user in some capacity from here on out.

When it comes to video, everything is up in the air. I've been considering everything lately when it comes to video. But in every direction I look, Canon lenses can usually be used. Which means that I'll probably keep buying Canon lenses.

I think there are still a lot of people who are holding out hope that Canon will release a killer inexpensive HDSLR one day for video. But I think their message by now is very clear, DSLRs are for stills with some video when you need it. C series are for video. If it doesn't have a C in the name, Canon is not going to give it the best video treatment.

Yes, I agree. So many of us have Canon lenses that keep up tied in some way to the system. The 5D MKIV will probably be a better tool for video than the MKIII. I will see if it warrants an upgrade from the stills side to see if I will get one. The GH5 might be interesting as well as the Sony offerings. I have become fond of the articulating screen on my Sony RX10 II and want it to be a part of any video DSLR for me going forward. I am not expecting the MKIV to have one of these. The viewfinder in mirrorless cameras is very useful as well.

How disappointing that EM1 mkii won't be announced till later. This is looking like a pretty boring Photokina.

Is that a legit site?
the Indian one.

From 43rumors.com on the GH5

And now we got a first spec info from a trusted source:
1) The camera has no crop for 4K
2) 4:2:2 10 bits internal recording!!!!

Panasonic won the game.

Panasonic was first mirrorless/DSLR with 10bit external before anybody else, now it looks like Panasonic will be first with 10bit internal before anyone else had even caught up and offered 10bit external aside from Panasonic!!

Lets wait to see what format that 10bit is in. I love Panasonic but what plagues v-log has nothing to do with 10bit and everything to do with their H264 encoder. It is way too aggressive in how it groups together similar colors. Even external 8bit from the GH4 looks very good with v-log. If the encoder is still H264 based I hope they improved a lot more with it then just adding 10bit.

Also 4k with no crop may not be as desirable as we think. It all depends on how they get 4.6k of pixels down to 4k without too many aliasing or moire artifacts. I for one hope they don't get rid of the cropped 4k mode since it is extremely clean. I hope they allow the user to select both options. Sort of like ETC on the older GH cameras.

It's just a rumor for now so it's best to keep accolades in check. Virtually every prosumer cam that has been released started life with over-exaguated specs and most end up in the dustbin.

My personal WAG is that Pani won't/can't release a 4:2:2 10 bit internal DSLR in the sub 2K price point. I hope I'm wrong.......................
