Camera rumors for 2016?

Almost twice the dot count of the a7S II viewfinder --> nice!
(1400x1050x3=4.41 Mdot, vs 1024x768x3=2.36 Mdot for the EVF in the a7S II, and 640x480x4=1.23 Mdot for the LCD)
(I hate the counting-in-dots thing)

Canon Rumors think that 5D MK IV might be announced before the NAB'16 (April) and that 1D X MKII will be announced shortly, at either the CES (January) or the CP+ (February). The interesting angle on 5D MKII is its (rumored) 18 MP sensor, which would make it a far more video/low light oriented model. Both rumors make sense, as Canon already has a 50 MPX stills version in 5D s/r that isn't very good with high ISO and the two announcement don't run into each other.

On another interesting note, Sony stopped the production of RXRII. No explanation given. Apparently, it's not in stock anywhere in the US either.

No rumor (is there a "Phase One Rumors" site anyway?). Phase One has a new 101 MPX (you read it correctly ... one hundred and one million pixels) full frame camera with a sensor made by Sony. Only $50,000. Might look good on the back seat of my Aston Martin.

When this thread was started, 2016 seemed so far away (and now I long for yesterday). Now that it's upon us, 1D X MKII rumors are floating everywhere (Raw 4K screen grabs at a sub-24 fps rate, 15 stops, etc.) with A99II ready to join the higher end lineup. As with many of its competitors, A99II cameras has been bandied about forever.

CP+ is taking place about a month and a half from now in Japan.

A new Fuji piece (to be shortly) announced. No 4K, but the colors seem nice and it has "film simulation" effect. So, there's your 16mm but for a lot less.

Their newest version of software for processing raw photograpy goes very well along with a, say, GH4 and a Fiat 500 to an acceptable price though. Excellent color science for around 330$. The Aston Martin set would be nice still..... ;-)

A Russian online retailer Fotosklad ("Photo Warehouse" en Inglese) posted a profile page for A7000. Priced at ~ 52,000R. The spec sheet is incomplete and the ETA isn't announced. And it looks like the picture might be fake. Other than that ...

Well, this page is gone but Fotosklad (claims to be the #1 online photo retailer in Russia with its own Facebook page) has another A7000 offer. Just under 50,000R, specs and the ETA unknown. And the picture, once again, might be fake.

Others more reputable of the less reputable sites think A6100 will be out shortly and shipping by March.

Olympus is coming out with a PEN-F camera. 20 MPX MFT Sony sensor (Sony still owns a portion of Olympus, after selling off a chunk earlier), that's also capable of a 50 MPX stills resolution in a pixel shifting mode. It also has 5-axis stabilization, using the same pixel shifting technology. The connection to the video world is this - A7SII also has a 5-axis stabilization, so it should be possible to up its resolution by the same 2.5 factor to ~ 30 MPX. That would make it a strong hybrid contender, which is probably why Sony refrained from doing it and leaving that mantle to A7RII. In the next generation, however ...

gopro is set to release a full frame camera with an f1.2 lens and no fisheye effect while keeping the 120degree field of view. RAW recording too.

upgrade! upgrade! upgrade!

Full frame gopro? Dang, that sounds like they've done some serious r&d, def not the norm for them. Could be a great low light/night time camera. But then again, I suppose you could add a little iso then stop down to get a deeper dof if need be. That's a pretty exciting announcement. Their also pretty good with releasing cameras that work well without waiting six months for firmware updates, which brings me to my next comment.

I like black magic color/raw but they continually have issues trying to maintain any kind of release schedule and quality control. If their working on anything new, I think it would be stupid to showcase it at NAB this year, they need to fulfill the outstanding orders, and slowly try to rebuild trust through delivering cameras that are solid performers and ready to ship. Here we are 11 months later and they've just barely begun getting ursa 4.6 to the early buyers. I understand the need to create a buzz at Nab, but I feel like their digging themselves in deeper and further tarnishing their reputation by this pattern. I can understand this happening on occasion, it even happens to the big boys from time to time. Just not every time.

As long as this thread was bumped - a brief summary is this :

Lots of cameras announced at/for CP+ - three Nikon P&S with 4K, a few Panasonic P&S with 4K, a few Fuji and Olympus cameras w/out 4K, a full frame Ricoh/Pentax with the D810 sensor by Sony but w/out 4K. Sony's own A6300 has its own thread. And who can forget D80 from Canon. And Sigma with a Foveon sensor without video.

Rumors are - 5D MKIV maybe teased or shown at the NAB; Panasonic GH5 at Photokina in September. As a rule, the manufacturers want to be able to ship in late spring for the summer vacation season. Photokina is set up to lead to the Christmas shopping season. The NAB is designed to lead to the following TV season, whose shooting schedules start around August.
