I don't understand why they didn't just ditch the old sensor completely. Have URSA and URSA Mini, both with the new 4.6K sensor. And in the future, release a Mark II of both. Now it's just so confusing.
They could try selling them to AJA or Apertus. On a side note, I'm a little surprised that CMOSIS hasn't developed a successor to the CMV12000 with greater light sensitivity and dynamic range. They probably have a crap load of these and have to put them into cameras.
I still have some of those new, along with 3/4. Years ago thought I might need them some day but still haven'tWell, this is the latest Sony announcement about heir technology developments for 2016 and, frankly, I am shocked. Shocked, I tell you.

I got into video retail - first real job, of sorts - back in the mid-80's, right at the end of the Betamax era. Rumors were that Sony didn't want to license the format ... but to the video manufacturers. They didn't want to be associated with the adult industry, which was then under a lot of political pressure. But when video exploded, the "Boogie Nights" exploded with it. Beta was left behind. Soon soon licensed VHS from JVC anyway.I still have some of those new, along with 3/4. Years ago thought I might need them some day but still haven't![]()
I refresh CR every few minutes, ha.
Good lord, not another indie camera company! I mean, I apppreciate Red, AJA, BMD, and Digital Bolex, but no one's yet produced a camera that was terribly innovative (maybe Red -- they started the movement toward affordable digital cinema cameras, but they have since become the establishment in spite of what they may wish you to believe). A big misstep in all of this has been modularity, which has increased costs and impaired ergonomics. What I hope we don't see is another CMV12000-based system. If someone wants to innovate, I suggest starting with 6-8K, 16-17 stops of dynamic range, a high native ISO, a global shutter, and high frame rates. And raw and industry-standard codecs. And onboard storage.http://comingsoon.craftcamera.com/
What is CRAFT?
. . .
An innovative digital cinema camera.
Starting under $1,000
That's Red Weapon.... If someone wants to innovate, I suggest starting with 6-8K, 16-17 stops of dynamic range, a high native ISO, a global shutter, and high frame rates. And raw and industry-standard codecs. And onboard storage.
... Panasonic developing 8K sensor for consumer and broadcast cameras. Hmmm.
