C300: C300mk2 real world footage and user reviews.

I actually prefer the top handle on the original C300 since it didn't require Allen wrenches to remove and I typically don't put enough extra weight on my setup to need a more study handle. I might need to get a Zacuto top handle for the Mark II since it's easily removable.
We are making up 3 custom foamed out case for the camera.....one will be in a Pelican 1560 w/wheels & handle and the camera will be with the top handle off. The second will be in a 1610 with the handle attached and the third will be an anvil type, handle attached and room for either 2 or four lenses (double cut for EF and CinePrimes). With the bigger AC and double charger, it will not all fit in a 1510 which is the largest Pelican you can carry on...sorry.

I was also thinking, you could probably use the Canon C300 Mark I top handle on the Mark II.

Confirmed, the Mark I Top Handle does work on the Mark II. It actually feels more solid on the MK II because you really need to squeeze it on there for the 1/4"-20 to line up.

Hey Jeff, where'd you read the Boyle comments? CML, his blog, other place? Haven't been able to find it yet.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks, got it. Interesting comments by Boyle.
Agree, since a lot of early reviewers said it's not so revolutionary.

Does anyone knows if C300 II dual recording works with all frame rates? Also if proxy recording in that mode works too?
Does AF works in 120fps as well?

Today Mr. Boyle posted that the mark II is in a class by itself at the price point, it's base ISO rating should really be around 1250, not 800, and by doing so, the camera has 4 stops of overexposure and "shadow detail forever". He did write, however, that he has not worked with the FS7 footage yet.

Could some one explain what is happening in that clip? https://vimeo.com/141282547
I am not that tech smart, to judge, but i am lost, as its seems like old cam has less noise in low light, its a 1st time when i am positive that i dont believe to what i see. Maybe NR was turned on on 1 cam and turned off on other one?

hope some one will post more tests like that.

As I've said too many times, there is only a very few production run cameras out there now thus, there is little or no footage posted from them. When we had our seminar 2 weeks ago, we did our test with a production run camera and were able to ascertain that 6400ISO is the new 3200ISO.....in other words, 3200ISO on the original camera was clean and what people used when they were shooting at night with street lights. A little bit of noise showed up at 6400ISO but you could easily dial it out using the noise reduction function. At the seminar and using a $20K monitor, we were able to see that the new camera was indeed clean at 6400ISO using a Bic lighter as our source...the blacks were clean! So, basically, the first camera was great in low light and the new one is even better!
Other than that first, very small shipment to dealers, there has been no more cameras delivered as of today. I believe more will get out to us dealers next week.

Noel are listening? We are waiting for your C300 vs C300 Mark II tests.

Coming. Canon have only just received evaluation cameras here - production run. I have a few days at the end of the week and my back has improved so should be shooting Friday / Sat / Sun / Mon / Tues if all things go to plan. Got a few things up my sleeve.

I received 300MKII yesterday (Melbourne, Australia) This camera is beyond clean, blacks in low light made me smile big time.
I don't have card yet so can only use HDMI out into Ninja Blade at the moment.

Plexi, where you at the canon event last week and if so did I meet you? There were many people that I didn't. Just wondering what your real name is (drop me a PM).

Was invited but could not go due to being in editing hell. Still in editing hell trying to make deadline so C300MKII is sitting in corner of office atm. The little time I spent with it last night has blown me away.

Can't wait. Wish I was there to lend a hand.

Cheers,

The rest went corporate/big accounts?

AFAIK....some went straight to shows.....and no reps got any...Canon does like to get them out to the users first. Also, Canon QCs every camera (again) before they are allocated out to the dealers.

ya, that's what I thought. I mean, if Paramount, to pick a random name out of the hat, asks and pays for eighty units to be delivered ASAP, then it gets its eighty units ASAP. For someone already into the C300 ecosystem and the workflow, MKII is almost a no-brainer.

To be clear, I'm guessing there was a total of 50 cameras in the first batch...each dealer got 1 or maybe 2 ..times 20 dealers so maybe that covers 30-40 cameras leaving maybe 10 that went straight to shows.....again, I'm completely guessing here...to be clear!

I'm very curious to know the difference in weight between Mark 1 and Mark II? I thought I read the Mark II was significantly heavier and would be quite cumbersome for handheld work compared to the Mark 1. I shoot very long days almost exclusively handheld with the c300 1, so this would be a big buzzkill for me. I don't see the weight on the Canon spec sheet.
