C300: C300: would you buy it now

I just watched some episodes of "Sonic Highway" on HBO. (Foo Fighters) It was sponsored for Canon and I would bet most everything was shot on C300. Maybe C500 on the final produced music video at the end of the episode.

All I can say is the camera has a lot of soul. That production value will not go out of style for a long time. Looked great and watching a few episodes might help in your decision.

It was shot on C300 and Red Epic.

Was the Red Epic used throughout or just the final videos at the end of the episodes? It seemed the produced videos had a little more refined look. Anyway, makes me think the C300MkII is going to be quite a camera.

I watched "Blue Ruin" last night on Netflix, which was shot on a C300 with L series glass in 2:35 aspect ratio. I was amazed at the image quality, very natural and filmic. I was watching on a 100" 2:35 widescreen with DLP projector and anamorphic lens. The camera never did anything to distract me as far as artifacts, highlight handling. Just very cinematic. Don't know if an external ProRes recorder was used, but the camera need make no apologies, much like "Blue is the Warmest Color".

It will be interesting to hear what people like Philip Bloom have to say about the Mk II vs. Mk I and FS7/F5. He has s Mk II currently for a week. He's already commented on the amazing DR.

I just booked a project with a new client for next week. Producer requested two C300s. Still renting them, still using them. I think the C300 MKII is spectacular but the old C300s will still get a lot of rentals and shooting this year and well into next year. Great cameras.
