C300: C300 vs C300 Mk II

DLD In most of the conversations I'm in Sony's aren't even in the conversation because of the inherent look of the cameras. They've never come up as an option for a narrative or music video. Doc and broadcast work yes, but not on creative story telling projects. They'll have to come out with something really organic to get my and other's attention in that department...
JMG, first, thanks for this series of posts. It's nice to have someone reporting from the news spot itself.

As to Sony, F65 has a fantastic color palette and the company would be well advised to migrate that sensor down the line and into the F55 price range. Its top of the line camera would then get a Full Frame version of this sensor (and an improved work flow to match).

F55 has been used on Sony's own projects such as "Deliver us from evil" or "Blacklist" but it's already over two years into a quickly moving product cycle, so one should expect an update within half a year or so. I am certain Sony is aware of where the consensus places this model and will try to up their engineering to match the demand.

PS. And, if A7s and FS7 are any indication, the new pro cameras will be F7, F57 and F67 and will be announced sometime in the fall.

I wish he would develop more of a sense of humor about the 360 photos he's been publishing non-stop on his Facebook..... those are so irritating! I love the man, but I hope he quits playing with his new toy.

Does he really need to remind himself and everyone what he looks like, I mean seriously the dude is self obsessed faux celebrity. I see the abuse scandal was quickly buried under the rug.....

Why do you care? More importantly, why does it upset you? Would love to see your many reviews on the many cameras out there. All while working as a professional day to day.

I think Philip is bright. He understands self promotion. He's done well with it. You?

I don't understand those that hate Philip Bloom. For me, he has the most entertaining, and informative camera reviews. Besides his reviews his creativity is always an inspiration! I don't think he is self obsessed, he simply presents him self well.

Concerning his so called abuse scandal, we have all had girl friends from hell, I have friends who have related to me their ex-wives claimed they were violent to get custody of the children. I know women who have cried rape and told me so and so raped them when I know in fact they had sex, then days later wished they didn't and cried rape. I will never buy a thing from Kessler after they dumped Bloom in the name of political correctness.

What do you mean "buried under the rug"? Who buried it?

guys could u explain the crop factor? what do u mean by that?

In the normal 2k 444 12bit mode the whole sensor is used for recording. But in the slow motion mode, the 2k image comes from an actual 2k image crop out of the middle of the sensor, essentially making you shoot on a small portion of the sensor. The benefit is that the image will be crisp (in contrast to sloppy scaling) but it also means you get a "crop factor effect" on your lenses. A crop factor of 2x would make a 24mm lens act as a 48mm (it's a bit more complicated but...)

This is similar to the difference between full frame cameras and crop bodies (1.5x or 1.6x commonly).

You can regard it as "free zoom" which can be a benefit to someone like Indiawilds, but it can be a problem to someone else—depending on what you shoot.

The topic is a bit deeper than what I just wrote, but this gives you an idea.

thank u for the info! as i understand there also be some light lose as well? also i wonder 2k crop will work only with slow motion, or it will be possible to use it at regular frame rates as well?

There should be more light, since you're only using the center of the frame.

Plus, every lens is sharper in the middle rather than toward the edges.
